nord `n TS flywheels

Post by TS_turbo »

Hi all
here is couple of pics of nord and TS flywheels ... i was very surprised when i find TS flywheel a lot lighter(my be 2-3 kilos) from nord wheel ..and also it can be made even lighter !!! look at the pics TS one is more dished in center and balast weight is concentrated at perifery..which is very easy for mashining 8) (i wust weight both of them soon)
.... hmm cant attach pics .. will upload somewhere ..
Image
in other pic u can see how bad is nord valve seat area ... midle part of valve seat is narower than port throat, and contacy face is very wide ..twice as neded  looks like seat profile have trpaezoid form ..+30 angle is bad for flow i think ...
Jim Greek if u read here do you know can i radius cut existing seats at 46 angle and fit bigger valves(bmw M30 motors 46mm) or i must instal bmw seats both intake and exhaust(38mm bmw too  )
will bmw seats fit in stock nord valve seat nests?!@? or must be mashined to accept bigger seats ?and what about big vlave spark plug clearence :?
sorri for my language :P

Where are the Pictures ?

Do you mean the 8 valves TS engine compared to Nord 2.0 old engine ? Is this TS Flywheel a perfect bolt on fit to the Nord Engine ?

Waitting for weights/answers/pictures :D

Cool thing man! :D

Can you measure all the bolts holes offsets etc... to make sure it will fit perfectly ?
Btw- did you weighted them both ? How much each weights ? Do you have any idea if the clutch flywheel of the TS is also lighter maybe ?
I can also tell you from experience, that alfa75 4 cylinders Front Driveshaft section is also lighter then those on GTV 2.0

Yes, the clutch flywheel is lighter as well. According to the pics there are at least three different designs.

My '78 was 7.5 kg. Some new (Milano) clutch flywheels have been documented as 5 kg.

BTW, my mechanic has a set of 10 clutch flywheels for 184 mm (7,25") clutches. Weight is 1.8 kg and the inertia I have "lost in my PC". Anyone interested send me a PM.

today i weighted both flywheels i used home scale(not very accurate) but i first tried stock crank = 19 kg perfect
nord flywheel 10 kg
TS 7,5 7,8 ... hmm good and u can lighten it by 2-3kg in most important perifery ,good for 4-5 kg flywheel :) ... how do you want a nord to revv fast with total may be 20 kg of flywheel mass
Micke 1,8 clutch fly wheel  is that for 4 cyl transaxles.. and what material

Flywheel is steel and made for the TS box. Planned for a 7.25" double plate clutch but should be usable for a single plate as well.
It does not only reduce the inertia of the flywheel tremendously but the clutch itself as well as the driven plate accelerate easier.
