164 TDC

Post by David »

I'm ready for a test engine assembly to check piston to valve clearance.

On the 164 can someone tell me what is used to check TDC. The 164 front pulley has a mark on it that lines up roughly near the crank sensor.

Jose,

Runners have been brush painted with black POR15.

The plenum was sprayed with VHT Black Wrinkle. The can of Black Wrinkle did both cam covers and the plenum.

The stock exhaust manifolds 'look' the same at first glance, but the 3.0 ones are bigger. The do however interchange fine. The 2.5 one have a 116 part number and the 3.0's start with 195.

The difference is very small. To be honest, don't worry about it.

Good news. Thanks, Z!

When I fitted the 3.0 engine I had to change one its headers for another from the 2.5 due to a crack on it.

Update

Post by David »

Just an update on the project so far. The engine is just about completed. Higher flow injectors are on their way and the MS components for converting the V2.2 board for spark are being ordered.

A few issues to overcome when using the 3.0L crank pulley and water pump as the pulley sizes and alignment are different than bolting on all the 2.5L stuff as I did last time.

The alternator is now driving off the pulley that the 164 power steering pump originally used. I am modifying the 2.5L AC compressor mount and then the second belt will drive the water pump and AC compressor. Will also be replacing the old Yorke compressor with a smaller rotary unit off a 75. This should just clear the oil filter.

Billy.

I cut these myself. The silicone hose is used for turbo applications. It fits the 164 plenum intakes and the new inlet runners I made perfectly.

Jose,

Strange enough, from the local truck spares shop. They sell all kinds of hose, exhaust and intake fittings. They also stock a lot of stuff for turbo fitting etc.
