Piston & Liner advice.

Post by Murray »

I'm planning how to keep myself busy through the long Alfaless Canadian winter and I think it's time I plug some new pistons and liners in my 2.5L.I rebuilt it a couple of years ago but kept the original pistons rotated liners 90 deg. and used Total Seal rings.I haven't been completely satisfied with the results:
-compression 160 psi +- 4 psi - rises to 175 with oil added - so the rings didn't seal all that well to the probably slightly oval liners.
-oil consumption leveled off at 1 L per 1000km.(600 miles) - not acceptable to me
So I guess that gives me a good reason to look at new pistons and liners and I would like your recommendations.I would like to raise the CR a bit,but not too much and would like to buy something "off the shelf" to minimize the cost (3 kids in school  )
So what can you guys suggest that I can obtain in North America ?

Post by benski105 »

hi murray,
have a look at
www.paulspruell.com
he has a whole range of JE pistons for alfas.
not so sure on the liners though.
try www.arricambi.com
i think they have liners for sale seperately.
good luck with the engine rebuild.

Murray,

What did you end up doing here?

I ask because I'm doing something similar, but with a 3.0.

Thanks,
Scott

Scott I did contact Paul Spruell and got a price on J&E's but then I got sidetracked and then spring arrived in the great north and there's no way I'm dismantling my engine when I can be driving my Alfa etc....
Long story short - next winter I'll buy the J&E's and put them in as I should have done from the outset.
