cooling system flush

I want to flush out my cooling system as it's been a few years. will the chemical flush products available harm anything? i've done it to several iron block engines but I wasn't sure about the aluminum block.

i have never had any trouble using any of the chemical flushes. go for it!

What temperature readings do you guys normally get when the engine is stationary? Mine goes up quite high about 105, but when running, stays around the 80 mark. Quite possible the radiator core might be partially blocked? Just wondering if the radiator was spot on, whether the temperature readings fluctuate above 80 degrees quickly when stationary?
Thanks for any info. BTW, climate here in Perth is almost mediteranean, currently 18-20 degrees ambient

Brian,
How about your fans? They working properly? If your radiator can cool properly while the car is moving it sounds to me that the fan isn't moving enough air when the car is stationary.

How's it going? The needle sits around 80 when the car is moving but as soon as it stops, I can see it move up midway between 80 - 120. Then I hear the fans go on and the needle drops but doesn't sit close to 80 unless I start moving. Seems like the fans move a bit of air but the needle doesn't go down that much. The gotech software reads around 105-108 degrees which I think seems a bit warm. Do you think I should take out the radiator and get them to remove the end tanks and rod it through? Or is this situation typical on alfas even with good radiators?

firstly before you do anything else try the simple things. did u do a reverse system flush? are the fans blowing air the right way (sucking not blowing)? you could also try a lower temp sensor switch for the fans. they r onli about 20 bucks and will make the fans turn on mayb 10 degreess or so earlier.
