Storing 2.5L GTV6 Engine

Post by cchan »

Hello Everyone,
Well, after careful consideration, we have decided to not build my engine stock. In fact, we are going to go with a 3.0l upgrade. So much for common sense. However, we want to keep the old engine parts, etc in case I would want to put back in the 2.5l engine for what ever reason. So my questions is we took out a perfectly running engine with 78K est on it. I want to now store this engine for an indefinate period of time. What should we do to insure that it doesn't rust, etc. My goal would be to be able to install it in the future and have it start right up again. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for all you help. :D

pull the plenum off and pour some marvel oil down each intake runner about 1/2 a cup into each runner then turn the engine over by hand a few times

pack the runners with paper towels and pour some marvel oil over them

stuff a few dryer sheets into the plenum and put the plenum back on(the dryer sheets drive rodents nuts and they wont come neer them

this next part i would only do if your in a moisture rich area
pull the valve covers off and loosen all of the valve trane up so that the valves close this will asure you that NOTHING can get into the cylinders and since there sealed no moisture will enter them in adition to the oil

if the exhaust manifolds are off oil soak some rags or towels and stuff them as well

ive done this on countless V8's and 4cyl's and even left them outside...with everything oiled and sealed they will still fire years later
