[help] GTV6 Group A 2.5 V6 engine

Post by Alfisti PT »

1st of all, i hope this is the correct place for this topic.
I'd like to get some opinions on the value of one of this engines.
How much does it worth ?
The engine is in excellent condiotion, and the seller is a trustuble person.
The engine has about 240 PS.
The engine made two hillclimbs, and has been completely revioned after that.

Thank you all for the help.
Greetings from Portugal.

Hello alfisti.

imho the most important for any answer is to know for what this engine is intended to be used.

road, road racing, track, racetrack, hill climbing, drag, school car, house decoration... ?...?

240 hp is raisonable to have fun in a modearte budget car.
this 'not too much' level of power can permit you to keep another elements of the car close to the oem specifications, and keep you trouble and $£€ free.
an 2.5 with power had a very different sound in comparasion of an 3.2 standart for exemple, that noise is very 'enjoyable'....

that engine...:how it get 240 hp..? i guess it run a bit faster like 7500-8000 and get some intake work with 6 intakes ?
it run on a modified bosch ljet, carbs, new efi...?

plese give any technical info you had, should be interesting for answers.

cheers.

The engine is mostly for road use, maybe with some trackdays also.
I haven't the details on the engine yet...
But i promise, I'll answer your questions soon.

Ask for a dyno sheet.

Zamani's point is valid. It's pretty tough to get 240hp from a 2.5. It can be done, but it's expensive.

I have my doubts also about the engine output.
I'll get a dyno if possible.

Anyway :
In 1981 Alfa decided to join the international touring car championship with it’s all new V6 engine in the old Alfetta GTV. Alfa’s racing department ‘Auto Delta’ contracted the tuners Imberti from Italia and Luigi Racing from Belgium. Both companies worked on the special parts within and just over the limits of the group A regulations and Auto Delta on their part, took care of the homologation papers. The engine reached 235 HP at 6750rpm and the drivers where able to go upto 8000 rpm.
The engine was originally tuned by Luigi racing, for a portuguese Hillclimb GTV6.

The car is from my brother, and he decided to make an engine swap.
It should be ready soon...
I'll post more things, when the car is ready.
Greetings from Portugal.

Rally-spec engines made 235hp. Track 2.5's reportedly made up to 290hp on carbs and 310hp with efi at close to 8krpm with shifts ~8400-8500! Rods were the weakest point of those machines and frequently broke at ~8k.
Failures came also from the exhaust valve rocker arrangement which if it didn't break, consumed cam lobes fast! The best engines of the '81-84 period were made by Sodemo.

i heard from a guy called Guy Meallet that had works at SoDeMo in the past 90 (he is workin on engine assembly and gearboxes, that guy is 50 year old man)
that the rods on 8000+ rpm 2.5L race engines are the oem ones ! but modified (bushing, ligthen, and shotpen) on these engines that ran in ~84-85 years.

then each time i hear that these rods can fails, i am always afraid...as im running exactly this in him advice: modified but oem rods on a 3L24v 8000 rpm with 290°10mm cams.

then i had a question :
really ? the oem rods....are a dangerous item ?
im afraid again :?

JimK,

Was the Alain Cudini and/or Snobeck car built by Sodemo?

The engine is mounted, already.
However the cluch is giving some troubles...

After the 6000rpm, the car is unbeliavably fast  (is goes near 8500rpm).
I still don't have all the details, on the engine, but it runs on modified EFI.
I expect to post soon, a dyno, and more infos.

Sorry Z, just saw your post. Yes, the Snobeck car has a Sodemo engine and it is now racing here in Athens after being bought by a local. Some friends of mine are taking care of it in their garage. Awesome sound...fast mother too. 6 carbs!
The owner/driver had a few problems with the rules as the car has an aluminum cage and some other technically illegel things. Now...is it really 2.5/2.8 or 3liters??? I guess I'll find out one of these days! The french team running those cars is VERY interested in the new rods for obvious reasons, seeing the revs they pull...

Ok, the engine is on the car, and the clutch problems are solved.
The engine is a little "dead" till 3500~4000rpm, but is amzing from 4500 till 8500rpm... :D
In the next few days, I hope to have a little video, or so to show you.

However, the gear ratios (the final ratio) should be closed up, because of the more rpm's this engine does. any suggestions ?

How is the engine running now ?

I think that both Sodemo and Luigi is gone, GEMA is definitely gone today. So do you know of todays tuners can make engines following the group A specifications stricktly ?

Thanks Tectoteam,

I read and write French pretty okay, but speaking would cause me troubles  Fortunately is one of my good friends living in Grenoble, and he will call Guy for me.
