Exhaust manifolds for 24v in GTV6

Post by matfo »

I'm currently conversing an Alfa 164 Q4 engine to fit my GTV6.
My first plan was to use the Q4 manifolds but it seems more or less impossible to modify them to fit. :(
On my 2,5 engine I have a pair of SZ manifolds and I have read that someone modified those to fit on a 24v engine.
First of all I don't really want to "destroy" the SZ manifolds and second they have smaller diameter then the original Q4 so it it not an optimal solution.

Since there are a number of 116 cars with 24v engines on this forum I'm curiuos to know how you all have solved it. :?:

You can get from a few places:

Beninca Motors (Australia)
Glenwood Motors (South Africa)

Or you can make your own by modifying the Q4 manifolds. Requires lots of modification, but the flange part is usable as well as the collector.

Thanks, now I have mailed them both. Hopefully I get answers soon. :)

If it's not possible to buy a pair then I think your other suggestion maybe the soultion to go for.

Beninca's headers are 1.7" ID primaries.

About AUS$2K.

Larry Jr. also did headers, not sure if he is anymore. Price was US$1K + 164LS/Q headers.

Either way, not cheap at all.

Thanks for the link to the picture of the headers.
There where also a couple of other pictures that will be of interest for me when I'm working on my 24v conversion. :)

Hi "Matfo" Mats
You can use the 164 headers in the 116 conversion but you need to do some heating and bending. The negatives are you have remove engine or shift over to one side of the bay to remove the headers. check out the following pics.

Under side. left. Some very tight bends. Best you do these on the engine stand.
