Hi Michael. Welcome to the forum!

The idle speed is adjustable somewhat. On the right hand side of the plenum there is a brass screw-in fitting that has a double nut and a hose barb. In between the nuts is a fat o-ring that gets squashed to control the amount of air that bypasses the throttle butterfly.

The other thing that my car does occasionally is when returning to idle, ie coming up to a set of lights, the idle dips below normal idle- around 500rpm and then comes back up. I haven't figured out what this one is. My car idles normally otherwise.

What exactly do you mean by the timing slipping? Is the belt skipping teeth? or are you talking about ignition timing?
