Shortening the harmonic balancer

Hi all, I need to shorten up my harmonic balancer (3 pulley) due to space limitations.
The car, a homebuilt, currently has a 4 cylinder and when I swap the V6 I reckon the balancer will be hard up against the steering rack.
I notice that it has built in counter weights, so what's the impact of say lopping off the first two pulleys?
