4500rpm cutout!

Hey guys,

Ran into a problem, when the tacho reaches 4500rpm it just drops right back down to nothing until it comes under 4500rpm again.

Any ideas whats causing this?

:D Rev limit
:) Trigger signal filtering
8) and my favorite-using an ign. module from a VW,OPEL,VAUXHALL that is intended originally for a 4 cyl.You now use it on a 6 and the 4 cyl rev limit (6000rpm) now comes in at 4500 on the 6 cyl.Fun.

Bernard,
Sounds like the engine is running fine, and that it is only a tach readout issue, right?
Do you have the GoTech Pro? I assume so. When Joe (from GoTech) was up in Seattle tuning the 3.7 he told us that the tach output of the GoTech Pro (on my 3.7), most likely would not drive the Milano tach, or drive it well. He said it would only take an inexpensive, readily available, "converter?" to put inbetween. However, we hooked it up straight and it seems to work on the 3.7. Anyway, a convoluted way of saying that you may need that "converter?". Either post on the GoTech forum or ask GoTech directly.

How is it running??????

Its running well, but the tappets are *very* loud.

Booked in next week for a tune just to get everything sorted.

Pics, sound clips, video? We want to see, hear, touch, smell,... don't want to taste, though

Ok since you asked ;)

I will be making a dedicated thread once everything is done.

Hey Mezevenf, where did you get that intake manifold from? seems to be converted from the 164 24v one, i'm interested in that for my V6 conversion

The whole engine came from Glenwood Motors in SA, few things had to be modified to get everything sorted and fitting nicely.

Bernard, sounds like the rev-limiter is set to 4500 RPM... Is it jus the tack that drops or does the whole motor loose power and shut down until the revs drop below 4500...?

Sounds like one tappet isn't filled properly, let it idle until it's all warm (oil viscosity drops) and see if that solves it. Usually you get this when building a new engine, should be fine.

JJ - It's just the tacho that cuts out, engine still goes past 4500rpm but I cant tell how far ;) Dawie responded telling me I just needed some adaptor for the GoTech, can you supply said adaptor?

Thanks for the tip Mats, will see.

Bernard,
That sounds exactly like what Joe (from GoTech) described to us re. the 3.7. It should then be readily available, and it is probably much faster for you to pick up locally.

Hook up the GoTech ECU to a laptop and you can see the RPM there. Obviously you need to install the software on the laptop first.

Hi
You might need a Gotech tach adaptor for the specific tacho meter... or the tacho might be faulty.
