FWIW, I'd add another diode to this fix. Feed it from 87 to 85 of the second relay in place of the direct connection.

Idea being, as it is in the diagram, if the relay should fail, you'd end up feeding coil current via the diode, which would pop it pretty quickly giving you a more awkward problem diagnosis. Adding the extra diode prevents this, but still gives a latching operation of the coil power relay as desired.
