Touring Car Suspension
Anybody have detailed shots of a true "touring car" suspension?
I want to learn more about the REAL differences between a full touring car suspension and say, not even stock, say at least a full RSRacing setup...
Details please. Who made them? Any for sale? Etc.

...to Alfa, or not to Alfa? That is the question...
Pick up a copy of "Racecar Engineering" and you will see lots of pics and analysis of touring car suspension systems.
Most of the time they are a mix between very special and expensive parts and totally stock parts, all depending on the rules of the class they compete in. Can be quite confusing to say the least...

Touring Suspensions
Yeah, I was more interested in this type of setup as it relates to Alfas and particularly to the IMSA cars and DTM cars... Popular Science and modernracecars@hondaricerracer.com -world won't have what I am looking for.
Andrew may have some good shots of the suspension on the blue car...?
If we ARE talking about REAL race cars here, then we are talking about more than say, "just" an RS Racing kit though, right?
Would love detailed shots of an IMSA 75 or similar setup.

jj: The problem is that the suspension is almost always designed around a set of rules, that means that what was great on the IMSA or Gr. A car is really crap compared to what they would have build had the rules been totally open.
Interesting to see that the IMSA on those pics has the steering rack in front of the hub... one of them seems to have a very special engine, exhaust on the "wrong side" and very interesting flywheel.

Definitely a partially re-developed setup. Particularly the upper and lower arms, both should be light and the top one made adjustable (length) like some 105 cars. RSR shocks and springs would be ok. I guess it depends on the group you run with. Where I am you don't really need to heavily modify the 75 to win races.

Touring cars are very difficult. The problem is you need to use some original parts which are not at all suitable for racing. Thus you end up doing compromises which would be totally unacceptable in real racing (as purpose built) cars.
Here's a picture showing why the GTA Alfas have more camber than normally needed. How to tune such a setup? I rest my case!

Money no object? hehehe...
double wishbone all around (tubular steel of course), Koni 2812, adjustable (when driving) knife type anti-roll bars, probably widen the car about 50mm per side, etc...
