GTV max tire size

Post by Micke »

This could be posted under tires I guess, but as it probably goes under the category "don't try this at home", I'll put it here instead.

I think I maxed out the tires on the GTV with original wide body. The clearance is minimal as can be seen on the following pics.

Tire size is 225/50R16 all around.
ET is 25 in front and 16 rear.

Rear it would be possible to use wider tires at the cost of ET. Hence 245/45 should fit with ET26

Micke,
I ran 225/50R16s with 35p offset 8" wide wheels on mine for a couple of days and nearly blew the front guards off it when I hit a bump. Admittedly this was on a road car which used road springs and shocks. Solid links or something near as stiff may have solved the problem or even roads without bumps (don't exist here !!)
I ended up using 215/45R16s instead.
Rears were never a problem.

A 205 X 40 X 17 is the same rolling diameter as a 205 X 50 X 15 and with an 8J rim should not be a problem on your GTV6.

Well it shouldn't be when you use R tires, or R Roadtires or whatever you call it. Those are normaly a bit wider than the normal dim. So a 205 R tires is a bit wider than a 205 normal tire. Thats what i have heard.

Micke, I know it's an old post, but how did you like those Ventusi? How was the tire wear? Do you guys have the Falken Azenis RT-615?

I have a Milano with 16X7.5 ET37 wheels. Do you suppose I could fit 225-45-16 tires on there? The Ventus is available in that size, but the Falkens are not -- 215-45-16 only.

I like them. Didn't drive enough to tell about wear.

The size you propose should be OK I guess.

The german Grand Prix version had 225/50R15 on Rial widened rims. (I'm not sure what ET does this have)
Usually I use the 205/45R16 on front and 225/45 on the rear. But a new set of tire waiting for me, which all around 225/45 will be.

Why did you choose a staggered setup?
