That's what I was thinking - I just wanted a second opinion to back me up.

I've basically removed the above pictured aircon core and will keep the heater core in place by fabbing up a metal bracket - That way I've still got the heater and fan function.

you could probably go with a smaller heater core too for some minor weight saveings......something ive seen done in the past is useing the smallest blower motor you can find (useualy defogger for rear windows of older cars) and make a simple shroud around a small 6x6 heater core that does nothing but feed the defogger vents..light, small, simple and effective

Weighed my quite strongly built fibreglass bonnet yesterday. It came in at 7kg. No hinges or support struts required, though, just 4 bonnet pins. Will do the rear hatch one day soon.

*Added* - Rear hatch weighed in at 4.8kg.
