Hahaa. Thanks for the encouragement guys. As you can see the projetc is off and running and has some potential. Remember this however that INITIALLY this car is being prepared as a racing trainer and is only meant to be a mid field runner. Naturally it will have full race brakes, suspension, and transmission, weight reduction and roll cage etc. but will use a mildy modified twin spark engine. The aim is for around 175bhp and about 950kg.

The reason I can't show you more photos now is that its got no suspension fitted or any mechanicals. I need to move the car out of my garage into the open so I can photograpgh it
That should happen in about 30 days or so.

...and yes I will show you my new shifter, one piece tailshaft, outboard brakes, hayabusa throttle bodies, coil overs..stay tuned.

ha - midfield runner!

My 105 gtv is 1000kg, has 180hp and it runs at the front with the big-boys! Everything about this should be better, so there'll be no claiming of underdog status for you!

Watching with much interest :P

The rest of the mechanicals and mods are strictly mine. I modified the cage too.

should make a great car with the light weight. what are you planning for to do to the engine? to get the power up?

Progress is being held up as I am trying to figure out a novel way of fixing the expected bump steer problem when I lower the car. The last solution was OK but a little on the heavy side so now I am trying to figure out something simpler if possible. That's proving to be a taller order than you think when you want top avoid welding, drilling or otherwise affecting the upright but I am plugging along and will get there no doubt in the end. I also want to make it adjustable which the last one wasn't.

For now the engine will be a road engine with throttle bodies, tuned exhaust system and a Haltech ECU to tune it. That should make around 170-175 bhp or so. The plan is to work up to 200bhp over time once the chassis tuning and brakes are sorted out and we get some skills up on the various tracks. No point flogging an expensive engine around in the meantime.

Yes thanks. I am aware of that design.
However I have put it aside for now as it involves welding the second arm onto the upright which I am not happy about. Otherwise it caters for the adjustment provisions well. I anticipate having to move the tie rod connection down about 80mm so I am working on that criteria. I also prefer to use the original ball joint instead of a rose joint but we'll see how the design comes up.

I had thought about making a drop leg that has a taper and thread where it goes into the steering arm and also an internal taper and thread to receives a standard ball joint. Obviously the hard part is actually screwing the ball joint stud into the drop leg and applying enough torque to call it tight.... Then I had planned to drill and roll pin the ball joint stud so it couldn't undo.

Mate I think an 80mm drop without some other means of bracing is simply going to flex too much and this is the challenge.

Sounds like a lot, from measuring toe-curves I'd say it's way over target. But then again I don't know what you're doing with the rest of the suspension.
On a stock setup, fiddling around with a few millimeters makes a huge difference. :shock:
