A little sideways action from the late seventies, the racing was extremely close with the Mazda's as can be seen by the front of the GTV.
A lot of pushing and shoving was the order of the day.

Dorino Trecani in the Trepal Engineering car, this was the last GTV6 to race in Stanic Production Cars, after Group One was discontinued in 1985.
Stannic Production Racing replaced this very successful formula in 1986, however there was a huge hole in this formula in my opinion, and that was Alfa Romeo.

Hi Tom, thanks for that info always wanted to know how that car fitted into the scene.I did my military service in 84 and 85 so I was not able to attend all the races.
I will keep on digging and with yours and Kevin's help and anybody else who can help fill in the blanks, as well as some pictures as well.
We can try and make a picture library of GTV racing from around the world.

Another picture Kevin has manage to find, Able d'Olivera in the Glenwood / Pretoria Brick GTV6 2.5 chasing Tony Viana in the Gunston BMW 535i. A regular move was to ride the inside concrete apron at Club House corner, in an attempt to overtake.

This is Part 1 of the 2 Hour Endurance race at Kyalami in 1983 which saw the debut of the 3.0 liter GTV.
First a big THANK YOU to Kevin you supplied the video and secondly to Steve Allison for converting and up loading the video.
Watch this space for the following parts to the race. (Aprox 4 parts)
Kevin said he has watched it 50 plus times and I must have watched it 10 times in the last week or so.
It really show what racing was like in the early eighties.

Not sure why their is no sound but will organise another copy . Great to hear those engines . Notice Dawie from Glenwood leaning on Abels car at the start in white t-shirt . ( he prepared those cars) . The rules did not allow any suspension mods and ran on the std 22mm torsion bars . Could not even remove the parcel tray under the dash! Cams were free, comp was 10.5 , exhaust free but headers 38mm restriction . Brakes were standard calipers and discs . Pads free and the raced for two hours like this  but with those full slicks they handled like a dream .
Their is a member of this forum who raced in this race ( Maurizio Bianco) . I will drop him an email for some comments .
Really fun watching the BMW 535 drifting and the pit crew attending to bonnet . Interesting to see how substantially faster the gtv3.0'was than the 2.5 was on the circuit . Our road tests only stated the 3.0 was 128kw when the 2.5 was 118kw . This really proves those figures supplied by Alfa South Africa for the3.0 were seriously misleading . You can see how long the 2.5 holds off the 535i so those 2.5 we're not slow ether .
