Hi Kevin:

How did you remove the bottoms of the main subframe rails (the subframe the front a-arms attach too)? I would like to do that same thing to straighten them and put them back on.

nice... wonder who the friend was

there are a few things I need to try do over the "festive" season, BUT my loyal help is not available...

I want to install extra seat, a couple of extra sensors, such as AFR AND an additional water and oil Temp gauges

Greg : their might be differences between your GTV and mine due to different manufacturing plants but the plate was removed using a baby grinder and grinding away all the spot welds in conjunction with cutting it open and pulling it back .

Joemart : extra gauges are worth it especially if they are linked in with warning lights set at max and min as sometimes you might not see a sudden oil pressure drop in the heat of battle on the track . I think you might be able to link this up to the new Powermods with a few LED . Talk to Dom .
I had two water gauges which saved my engine as one was before thermostat and the other was after so when water pipe burst I knew their was a problem because normally it will just give the temp of the water or lack of coming through to the housing from the radiator .

 you can Skype me during festive season shutdown and I can watch you do all the work mentioned :D
Once you got your gauges if going that route get fittings from Rudman hydraulics in DrieHoek( germistion) to match the guage fittings when adapting to the motor . I will email you pics .
Ps just seal up all holes from your engine bay so you don't burn again . Pro auto rubber in east rand has all the grommets and plugs .

I was at autosport show at NEC for the first time yesterday and was absolutely blown away by all volumes ( halls) of products and exhibits . So I was trying to see what goodies and gadgets are available in order to " waste " spend money on the GTV . Apart from the 3d printing of a functional exhaust which I thought was only for prototyping I came across a company called ISOCLIMA who specialise in glazing ( aircraft , touring cars , armour cars etc) . They run micro wire laminated into the windscreens so no misting or fogging hence my solution for racing in the wet . Cost of a windscreen is pretty scary but they will laminated a GTV windscreen with the micro wire in for about £400 which is stIll pricy . Interesting to see dog boxes in h pattern for my conversion built in Lithuania and uk suppliers who do flywheel conversions . Giovanardis 156 was there in the historic display . Gripper had a stand there - who make LS for the Alfa 116 series . They made one for me about six years ago which is still perfect . Interesting to see their unit in pieces to appreciate why they are so good . If any one needs one for racing they should contact John at Gripper as he knows all the differences across the 116 range .
Some pics to follow which include a current F1 clutch !

Back in SA doing few tweaks on the car . One was to get better clearance on my rear calipers which I rotated more to the back so much easier to bread nd change pads . I did previously make adjustments on Dedion but I thought this morning I should quickly pull it out car , cut it and get my mate to do welding . Also fixing spring pan which was horribly out out angle . Tomorrow I will recheck all alignment on it . I'm happy with 0 toe and 1 degree camber with my semi slick tyres and my driving . If anyone think I would be better off with toe in and more camber I'm all ears .

You should try and set it up with toe-in as for the 7 5 EVO Turbo or SZ ES 3.0 . about 3mm from memory but figures are in the SZ book

Thanks for that info . Some of chaps who race here say it can make it pretty twitchy with 3mm toe but its the correct way to go for seriously advanced drivers ie not my category :D
Had the Dedion in and out again today for further mods at AK Classics showroom . Its really cool place on Saturday mornings as every alfisti comes down to perv over all the classics on the showroom floor and help consume some beer . The guys had to move 24 cars using rollers in order to get mine out from the back where its been in storage . Huge thanks to Alan ( SZ owner ) for his assistance today to get car ready . Still quite a few snags to finish off and calibrating the Dash2 .
Did a few blasts up down the parking lot and in the road . Car feels like a two stroke kart with these short ratios . Absolute hands full .

Some pics of the showroom and some of us consuming some well earned beverages . Temp was about 33 degrees so its was important not to dehydrate :D
There are so any excellent classics in this showroom . Note that special edition Group One Giulietta .

Warren sure can organise pics . The gtv was very close to be been torched today after I missed free practice from curved ball set backs . I installed my new starter this morning only to find it was jamming on ring gear . Now the starters perfect so had to start whole procedure removing manifolds etc again To find cause Panic setting in as today was only chance to test car on circuit before youre surrounded by 40 other cars and had to do wheel alignment as well .
Long story short took new 75 starter out and had to file down teeth where they were damaged fom jamming against flywheel even though i only cranked it twice . i originally thought it was solenoid sticking but after some measurements the problem was found . If you look at the gear you can see it protrudes more than the GTV starter by 3mm . Because I have custom flywheel which should have been 11 mm from block but it was 9mm I picked up this issue as the gear also starts off at 9mm .
My fix was not recommended ( due to time constraints and no lathes nearby) but I used front suspension shims of 3mm , cut some longer bolts and put all back together still cursing . Problem solved and wow this is the best starter motor ever . It swings so fast and make no difference even when cooking hot . I sorted alignment and found my De Deon has already -3mm toe in on both sides and - 0.5 camber standard from factory . Front is now 5 degrees castor , 2.5 deg neg camber and 1.2 mm total toe in .
I tried to renew my road licence so I could drive to track but the police system picked up the car was already cleared for export so that meant driving it without licence - bit risky but added to the curve balls for the day .
Finally drove to track with an hour left of practice in 35 degree heat started picking up huge vibration at high speed . I had not tested speed yet so thought it was prop but my pops in his late seventies was following in the 156 said he could see rear wheel looking bit bent so put spare 17 inch on to test and was fine .
As I had no spares I quickly stripped down speed line rim with Trevor ( on forum) to see which part was bent as I had spares only to find on closer inspection on rear hub their was some epoxy glue of about 1 mm on spigot causing rim not o fit flush , aaarrggggghhh . Why did I not see this before I stripped down rim . This was not problem with the 17 rims as spigot was slightly bigger . This Dedion was bought from a scrapper so who knows where this epoxy came from . Can't believe I missed it when cleaning .
Hopefully the assembled speed line rim which I glued up with gaskets will be set by tomorrow to test . Note joemart I will be stealing rims from your car when you not looking :D
Hopefully tomorrow is better day with calibrations of dash 2 and all other scrutineering stuff .
Pic of starters . Note gear protrusion .

Hey Kev,

What starter did you end up using in your car? Was it the Bosch 0001 108 098 from a 75 Potenziata? I am still trying to source one but no luck so far. Tim Brise has a new one but it's slightly more than 350 pounds including shipping - I am hoping for a cheaper solution :D
