Re: Alfa Romeo 75 3,0 V6 Gr. A Conversion from 12V to 24V

Post by Alfa 75 Racer »

Hi Guys !

It´s time to post some more pics of the conversion, ... today I was the first time in my workshop after I was sick and at home the whole week.
This was the reason why I have found the time to post so many pics of the conversion.

Today´s work was to put on both heads on the block to take a look if mods of thermostat will give enough clearance to the timing belt bearing.

First work before that was to modify / cut out the big bracket for the middle timing belt bearing.
But be carefull, ... don´t cut away too much, ... cut away only till first number which is clearly visable on my picture. Otherwise bracket could snap off !

Position of one pipe of the thermostat has to be modified to bring it in line with the head of cylinder 1-2-3, the other side Looks not too bad so.

Next pics I´m really proud of, ... this is how a serious race engine should look like !

Good evening guys, ... some more pics of connection hoses between thermostat housing and cylinder heads.

I´ve cut off approx. 1 cm of both pipes on thermostat housing to get more space / freeroom for connection hoses because of not correct alignment.

Another point what I´ve done is to make some spacers for the flywhell screws so I can use the OEM screws of the 166 flywheel with doubble whole shims of the 75 V6 flywheel, ... thread pitch of the 75 V6 crank is different to the 166 24V crank.

Hi Guys !

It´s time now for a little update, ... I know last edit is a long time ago but I didn´t find the time to work in my garage, ... too much work in the company.

Crank assy with front pully and fly wheel is now out for fine balancing so I decided to look for a good intake plenum and throttle body.

I´ve made a special plenum with one middle mounted 80 mm throttle body instead of the OEM 68 mm throttle body of the 24V 166 engine.

Next step will be the plate of the plenum where to connect the 6 big chrome intake runners of an Alfa 156 GTA.

Is that foil or actual carbon fibre? A plenum behind a throttle is subjected to a lot of pressure differences, I've seen CF plenums "breathe" like crazy by just revvig a little from idle.

Hopefully you thought of that and I'm just repeating myself...

Ciao Mats

Thank you for your worries about the carbon plenum but I´ve made it from strong 3mm carbon plates which I´ve glued together and then I glued in one more carbon fabric to strengthen the plenum.

So hopefully this woun´t be a Problem, ... I didn´t want to make the lightest plenum so I have choosen 3mm plates to build it.

Many greetings from Austria to you Mats

Good Evening Guys, ... it´s time for a small update of the progress on my Carbon intake plenum.

I´ve finished the end plate with carbon pipes, ... I´ve made inside of carbon pipes with a radius like the original inside of the Aluminium plenum.

I have to glue both parts together, paint everything, mount throttle body and ready is my custom made Carbon plenum with 80mm throttle body.

Also I´ve started with final assembly of the engine, ... I´ve already got back crank, flywheel and front pully from fine balancing with my self made bob weights.

Pics of engine progress will follow later on.

Beautiful work as usual . I see you have put the 75 dipstick tube on which will make life much easier so you don't have to recalibrate the 166 dipstick . Do you have any close up pics how you joined it on ?
Always look forward to seen progress on your thread :D
