What's so special about these Z? Do you have any specs?

Jim,

Don't know about the specs, but they are 2mm shorter than all other V6 cams. So almost no performance cams for it. Need a used one to have it reprofiled.

Z,I sent you pictures on what to do to use the long gtv6 cam in the 155 v6 motor. Its easy and very basic-no machining or anything....

You still got them? Follow the assy. procedure and they will work reliably,
French cars are shit and shit expensive to service and bloody awful and unreliable and expensive and friends don't let friends drive french cars and you wait years for parts.

That should be 2cm or 20mm shorter....

....so going back to the original question, what is the safe rev limit for a bog-standard 75? The point where things break due to over-exertion.

For QV, 6700rpm is safe. Why go past it? No more power there anyway. I've revved the 3.0 to 6500rpm for many thousand miles. No problems. That had stock everything except for QV cams.

BTW, when did you run 10.5:1 pistons?

........yes I am aware that there is no point revving past 6600rpm due to fuel, timimg etc, but that is not what I am asking (many times I have hit the original limiter in 4th and 5th). 10.5 pistons? I am a cheap skate; a couple of warped 164 heads with 1mm taken off and there you are.

Are you asking for the safe mechanical rev limit? I've heard of a case where, on an older engine, revving to 7300 broke the a few of the piston rings. So maybe around 7000rpm is a safe mechanical rev limit for your ole gal.

From experience, wouldn't rev a 20 year old stock sub past 6800 too often...
...to Alfa, or not to Alfa? That is the question...

...better keep from away from 7000 then. If I wanted to rev past 7000 what would I need? I can get hold of second-hand 164 QV 24V rods. Is the crank the same on these engines (apart from the protrusion of the flywheel end)?

Bruce, assuming your advance curve and feulling is correct I personally would not go over6000 rpm unless I knew the engine was balanced properly and had relatviely new cam belts. My 1984 GTV3.0l used to rev smoothly up to 7000rpm with mild cams(Dawies group 1 spec) as the motor was balanced properly. Once went to 7500rpm when carb linkages jammed open, luckily no damage, just pants chainge.
I was in Julians 2.5 GTV(December in Oz) with standard rods, frighteningly wild cams with revved effortlessly to 8000rpm, which he has being doing every day for last few years and no problems then again the 2.5 does rev "free'r' than than the 3.0l.
I have heard the cam belts wont stay on above 8500rpm but I have seen our GTA motors rev to 8300rpm. Not sure why our drivers are taking it so high as the cams are still standard unless it to avoid a gear chainge. Barry, you could comment there.
Also had belts jump off on 12v 3.0l at 6000rpm due to worn belts (only 40000km old but oil leak accelerated wear)
Hope this gives some answers
