V6 12v Individual Throttle Body

Post by Michael »

Hey guys:

What do you reckon about the feasibility of going ITB with my current GTV6 3.0 12V?
I already have a Megasquirt installed so I daresay I can get the calibration correct, and a company in the UK called AHM sell a kit, which apparently has most of the bits needed to install this, so there would not even be much fabrication.

Imagine the 3.0 bonnet, with the NACA duct open, and a set of 6 giant ITB's right underneath

Has this been done? Would it suck for street use?
I'm intrigued because surely the original South African GTV6 3.0 was ITB (via carbs),

TBs as pictured suggest top end power coming from high revs. Irrespective of the lengths, induction without filtration for a road car is a recepe for rapid wear and under bonnet fires.

Holy hell, he’s back, he’s back! Rumors swirling around the inter webs (orginating from the cradle of democracy and ouzo) saying he gave up everything and moved down south (Antarctica). So glad to see you back MD.

But definitely filters, without filters, it’s a receipt for disaster. Don’t forget a plenum and cold air ducts. Hot air from the engine bay will just kill power.

Yeah filters of course, AHM also makes an air box base plate designed for pipercross filters, true that I'd lose the benefit of my current cold-air intake, which is unfortunate.

I think to do it right, I'd need to fabricate something like this:

This 75 3.0 V6 got 265 whp without any change, up from 215 whp. Seems to be very ver tempting

Check those graphs again. No appreciable difference in power and torque at the bottom end which is expected but not helpful for a street car. Only cure for that is a compact roots blower. Really all depends on what you use the car for. Can't argue with the cool look of them !!

Here is a set I adopted from a Hyabusa motorcycle form my Twin Spark 4 cylinder racer almost two decades ago. Plenum closely resembles finished article.

The owner himself said with the 24V and typical 156 plenum he only had about 215 whp. After installing the AHM kit, there was a huge jump. Take that statement with a pinch of salt, but there was definitely a big improvement.

Hey even our big boss Mike Harris is interested. Mike is always right...Harris that is not the other Mike hehe

Hi , Michael . The torque with carbs and throttles is superb on the 12V . A friend of mine and I have have spent the last year and a bit making throttles for the carb 3.0 SA GtV that’s a direct bolt on application , including triggle wheel , and all brackets. Original airbox fits on top . This is not what you looking for as this is for the car heads which has different casting.
Full credit goes to my mate Stavros for spending the hours and hours revising this down to every millimetre. This kit is specifically for the Carb owners who merely just want to slide the carbs off and slide this kit on.
I can what’s app you some videos of this . Now on another note there are many ways to do filters using the AHM throttles and keeping cold air ! Give me some time and I will send you some pics

Some pics with original airbox on . Note the SA GTV airbox is extended over the original Sei airbox . The trumpet look was just for testing an provisional mapping so can get to all adjustments.
