All Tar is where it's at....
Yours is the teal'ish coloured, (maybe gunmetal grey/blue) 156...? Is that not a 3.5 with Honda pistons that Barry built...?
Any way, Riekus and I happen to know one another from about 20 years back - funny enough... He was a bouncer at Lime Light while I was a bouncer at the old Jacquline's in Pretoria...
I'll bring the GTA - where and when? Actually, just ol' uncle Al's "home-made" GTA that Dawie build will do... That thing flies with those short ratios...

JungleGym - it was a 3.5, now it's a 3.6 (3589cc) for various reasons - we were able to get 1mm extra stroke from a new crank that we put in. 100mm bore, as you know. It's african metallic grey yeah. Barry's just finished porting the heads, installing high lift cams and putting the 48mm intake runners on. He'll be finished the assembly this week.
Will let you know how it pulls on Dawie's dyno...

Hey JJ, I have helped Dawie over the past few years pitting(pit crew) for the various cars he has entered in this All Tar rally. Its a tough race as you know the works Toyota team shows up now and then so they are serious boys out there. Consistency and torquey motor definatly gives you a good chance. You have very little time to work on the car during stages and the penalties are often disqualification, so the car must be shook down properly which im shure you will do before that weekend. If you looking for crew I will gladly assist if my car is not ready for the race.
My most memorable rally was four years ago when Dawie prepared that 300kw low boost TT 24v. We chainged tyres every two stages as that motor was so strong until finally he ran out of tyres. There are still pics on the old web on one of the pit stops we made.
Definately the most exciting event on the calendar.

Thanks for the offer Kevin - can always use the help...
I will let Dawie know (he is in England right now...) am relying heavily on he and Wikus to prep the car in my absence, but I will be there in a few weeks to help and for start-up.
Also, is there an official website anywhere for the ATR? I am making plans right now - what are the exact dates?

Here's an mp3 of the motor at 5000rpm. Those solid lifters make a racket.junglejustice wrote:All Tar is where it's at....

She's running cams developed by Barry and JimGreek.
She pulled 217bhp at the wheels at 6300 (at Jo'burg - at 6300 feet above sea on 93 octane) and has 300nm of torque at 4700rpm
An E46m3 will pull 225bhp on this dyno under the same conditions.
Link here to mp3: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/adrian.cox ... hamish.mp3
here's a video of it doing a 0-200 run on the dyno. Careful - this file is 11megs...

gearing
Well the gearing is LEISURELY, as i said.
So, you're changing at 6000rpm. What you saw there was mild. 6300/6400 maximum power is nice for this setup for now. This motor is hell of a strong. I'm tempted to put a GTA or GTV gearbox in there, just to perfect the car as a whole, but really, who cares. The E46 m3 is 20% down on torque figures. Yes, it peaks power at 7900rpm. whooooop-de-dooooo.
Maybe, MAYBE, if we can be bothered opening up the motor again we'll change the cams so that it'll rev to 7500 rpm max power. But really, what's the point. It's not worth the effort.
More exciting is the plans for the next v6 motor. Honda valves, exciting 9000+rpm 400bhp setup. Go all the way, we say.

One more...
last one.....
I'll be getting some updated shots when I am there in 2 weeks....
Basically, we are taking her back to the 2003 LG colours - like in this shot - from the pre-Alfissimo 2004 days...
