Post by darryl longley »

Hi everyone i have a 1984 gtv6 completley 100% original but i was wondering after reading all your comments on engine conversions is it possible to put a modern 2.5. 24 valve head from say a 156 ont to a 2.5 alfa engine

I doubt it. The pistons are not the same, hence valve pockets are not there for the 4 valves. Not sure about the water jackets, should be similar but maybe there will be enough minor difference to make it not worth while.

You also have the differences in the oil-delivery system... The 12 valve block has a gear-driven shaft that axtends through the right-side head (from the pulley on that head that powers it), down through the block...

The 24 valve 156 block has a chain-driven oil pump (off of the crank) in the sump and no shaft from the head.

It can all be converted (and as Z said - the valve releases need to be cut on the pistons too...), but it is a great deal of work.
...to Alfa, or not to Alfa? That is the question...
