That Diva could be a start.

2 seats isnt a problem as no one I know would fit behind me in the GTV6. Of course I'm 6foot 3inches tall and am looking for ways to put my chair back further :)

Yes the Diva is nice and interesting from an engineering point of view but with that name and general appearance it will surely get the label, "it's a hairdresser's car" Would it be a car for me and would I buy it if available?
No.
The pendulum effects of all that mass in the rear. No thanks. Weight distribution, who knows?
..and if you live in the tropics like me, all that glass area would see you fry eggs on the dashboard. Got massive heat issues with the GTV as is...

Kevin, agree with dukman, just fix the transaxle.

Increasingly though, the marketing strattegy I see evolving is with a product that has the ability to grow from a fine and balanced value for money machine for the street guy and factory supported options to "warm" the thing up to sensiblke levels based on personal preference of the owner right up to racing spec components available for the car. These would be the likes of brake upgrades, clutch, gear ratios, diff. ratios, induction and exhaust tunings, go faster chips etc and basically a factory backed consumer range of ad on products for the enthusiast tinkerer/and or racer.

That way you have a machine that grows with you and you get factory quality stuff to make it like you want.

I don't mean options like most manufacuters cater for like trim, paint, and basically luxuries. I am talking about purely the performance stuff with one direction in mind from road through to racing.

Dreamin' or is this a whole new direction of marketing? Watch the Japs pick this up !

My latest thinking leads me to wanting a GTV6 with a 24v,3.4 litre single turbo configuration... 8)

Must say I absolutely love the 8C,hell I even have a 1:18 scale model,in black sitting on top of the TV in my bedroom. Girlfriend thinks I am long gone past any kind of medical help when it comes to Alfa's anyway.

Mike the options list sounds like a darn good idea.I have always maintained an Alfa, that's ANY Alfa, must be able to provide it's owner with driving pleasure. My dad had everything from Alfetta's to special edition Rally Sud's and they were all drivers cars.

Fernando that would be sweet, but how about the same engine, but a 3.7 litre with one of those variable vane turbos from porsche....

Instant boost, would throw you to redline.

Thats my next project i wanna do, what you think..?

I'd hate to think what the turbo would cost though...?

20,000 hours on the dyno, these turbos would be very strong! :D

I'm gonna start saving for one...in a year i think!!

Hey MR2 Zig, i know what you mean, i'm the same height, but since i got new seats, if i go all the way back now i can hardly touch pedals. Cos i know with the old Recaro's i always had it up hard against the rear seat.
I'm thinking of taking out rear seats and register it as a 2 seater, damn rego is due in 3 weeks, cool.

Excellent idea Garth. :D But you will definatly have to go for the front mounted gearbox option on a 3.7 turbo. I think we need to all be hired to drive Alfa's future product line up.....between us we would make TVR look like a company that was run by little old ladies...

I am 1.86m or about 6.2 feet if I am not seriously mistaken, and the only time I have a problem is with a helmet on.It seems as if my body has somehow 'adjusted' to the Italian driving position.

GarthW,

What seats did you get?

I haven't yet but I may just look into moving my stock seats back on the rails, and like you, removing the rear seat altogether.

Rear wheel drive with a front mount box so you can actualy go racing with a motor over 300hp and not worried which corner the crown and pinion is going to strip . Even the colloti boxes did not last with hollow shafts and oil sprayers on a big bore 3.7 race cars.

Ferrari, Maserati and come to think of it Alfa are all doing very well with rear mounted transaxles. 599 has 620 hp, and 612 has 540. GrandTurismo S has virtually the same drive-train as Alfa 8c with 445 hp. The best part is that all these gearboxes have TRIPLE cone synchros for first 3 gears. 599 in superfast mode shifts in 100 milliseconds. Transaxles have come a long way.

Agreed about Alfa sports car, give it an aluminum chassis with composite body. 2300 lbs, front V6 with rear box like the 8C. would eat boxsters for lunch.

Hey ZIG, i got a pair of OMP seats, and i also now sit alot lower in the seat, which is great, so when i hit the track my helmet wont hit roof.

Yeah Fernando, front mount would be a given there i think for sure.

Well this week i get to drive with a new radiator, so will be great for summer, early next year its back for a proper dyno tune(To Redline!!), 3 more ignition coils and running 12psi for daily street duties. And a heap more fuel to pull out of map, so car will be screaming next year. 8)

The Alfa Romeo 169 will to arrive in 2008. It will share the Maserati Quattroporte’s platform.
The 169 will be the first rear-wheel drive Alfa in nearly two decades. Based on the Quattroporte platform, the 169 will feature a longitudinal engine, RWD and a transaxle gearbox that will help the weight-distribution.

Looks like Alfa are going back to their roots, except for the weight and price tag.

I want a RWD, turbo four Alfa, 1200kg max, I don't want it to have seven airbags or heated electric seats. It can be a 2+2. If it's cheaper to have a front mounted box, do it. Doesn't have to be a perfect 50/50- what's in a number, anyway? The nerd in me likes that, but the driver in me wants to take the thing out on some back road and give it a belting without having to spend too much to get into the thing.

Basically I want Alfa to make an italianised version of an S15, with more character and style. Effortless charm and grace without the wings and shit. A compact, good looking car that urges you to treat it like the bad girl she is, and drives like it loves it.

So I guess I will have to make my GTV what I want, and I can't imagine wanting another car when it is!!
Fixing it bit by bit....

I was thinking something very similar the other day when I jumped back into my S13. Excellent wheel base and track dimensions. With a 4 banger in the front (mine has a straight 6) they have a good front/rear weight distribution but also a lowish/good polar moment of inertia (not much weight hanging out in front of the front axle line).
Decent suspension design.
If Alfa made a car of similar chassis dimensions and weight, a proper, strong manual g'bog (either a trans axle or a conventional) with an excellent shift quality and a rorty V6 under the bonnet..........
Sell it at the same prices the s15s use to sell for a few years ago
