Re: In the build...? Anything new being done..?
Micke,
How was your experience with PS-Schulze service? The have a lot of good stuff.
They have the GTA crank for Euro 580, seems extremely tempting! Need to find GTA pistons and I'm in business for my 3.2L. Actually I only need a sample GTA piston so I can have some 11.5:1 JE pistons made.
BTW, what are you doing cam wise? GTA cams? Have you heard of Newman cams?

Re: In the build...? Anything new being done..?
mods for cooling:
welding of the heads to get enough place for the headgasket to seal.
making room for the coolant to get around the liners.

Re: In the build...? Anything new being done..?
Schulze was very helpful and friendly. Advised about machining the block. He had machined blocks in exchange for a decent price. Didn't like the shipping though.
We did it the other way. The sleeves are tight in the block. No leaking gaskets here. The machine shop said thats how they do it to all race engines. This also made it possible to skim the block flat.
The heads are welded. This was a must and the smallest or actually didn't even get to the level of being called a problem.
Giulietta: Looking at your block you have lots more room around the sleeves than me. Are your sleeves narrower at the top or smaller diameter over all?
Mine is really tight and I have a concern about cooling. I hope it isn't but I really don't know.
Cams I had made from stock ones. Ground off some base cirlce and a new profile.

Re: In the build...? Anything new being done..?
Sorry, is not my engine... cannot realy give you any extra info, just posted the pics to show how the cooling problems can be avoided.
It is a Savali ( dutch Alfa Romeo dealer, Sam Van Lingen) engine. there were several engines build over there 3.1/ 3.3/ 3.5/ 3.7 12v/ 24v...
There is a very nice black Savali 164 Q4 in a village near me, it has a very nice 3.5 24v engine and is in mint condition. Only about 7 of these cars where build from new and at least one of them was crashed at high speed.

Re: In the build...? Anything new being done..?
We only have 3 164 Q4s here in Nothern California.
Anyway thanks Micke, I will call Schulze tomorrow night (their morning). If it's true the GTA crank is Euro 580, I'm buying it right away.
Please keep us updated on the project.

Re: In the build...? Anything new being done..?
Those heads in the above are still workng well on my 3.7. No issues.
Got some pics of a second conversion I have just done for my friends race GTV. It was pretty easy as I have had all the parts from my motors . just time consuming checking every nut and bolt for condition do no stupid failures on track. Motor is standard except I put gta cams in . Definately the longest part of the conversion is the sump.

Re: In the build...? Anything new being done..?
Pics of oil inserts. Beats the hell out of me why Alfa comes with two different thread sizes on the 24v motors . one thread been 20 by 1.5 pitch and the othe 16 and 3/8 's.

Re: In the build...? Anything new being done..?
Decided to try new location on oil filler so it does not interfer with coil pack harness and keep it off the top of a cam . Also extended filler by the 30mm to make it easier to take cap on and off with covers on.

Re: In the build...? Anything new being done..?
Then I went to a real workshop to see how they get real power on there 3.7's , like nearly 60kw more than mine. Check out these throttle bodies and intake runners. Note this will only work on 3.7, definately not on 3.2. Good to see Glenwood has a new and improved workshop. Some pics from there

Re: In the build...? Anything new being done..?
Here is a pic of now the most powerfull GTV here in SA. As comparison a standard GTA on this dyno made 138kw on wheels , E36 M3 - 156kw, my race car also 156kw, Glenwoods 3.7 210kw N/A and this 3.7 twin turbo a wacking 453kw on wheels. Thats scary stuff. Remember we are 6000ft above sea level. (no sherpas needed)

Re: In the build...? Anything new being done..?
that's insane power on the TT.
The E36 M3 3.0 is 210 (crank)Kw from the factory, that is almost 35% higher then what you measure there at the wheels... If i calculate this figure further out i'm getting like 595 (crank) Kw for the TT at sealevel.
That car must have some serious gearbox and diff...

Kev,
Maybe because the rules says all cars need to have a cat?
