Will PM you on that Micke.
Yeah the 75 TS tranny came with a 4.11 out here, and the 3.0 came with a 3.545 or 3.575... I know, because the first box I bought was a TS one, and my mechanic pulled it down to check if it was oK, and it was pitted with rust, so they swapped it for a 3.0 one.... and I was pissed off because it was the only one I could get for a reasonable price, and I had the long gearing.

Fixing it bit by bit....
I find it quite hard to believe that even Alfa would have a special box for the AU market with a 1% lower gearing. Surely it had a std 10/40 pinion/crownwheel, or I need proof damnit!

Which again me thinx is a 43/11.
If you speak about the 3.91 from the 1.8T.
I have one but also a 4.1 (and a 4.3 and 4.56). I could trade away the 4.3 (43/10), preferably for a 3.55 (39/11).
I also have half a 4.78 (43/9) diff. I recall it being the crown wheel. If anybody needs it, I don't have any use of it missing the pinion.

You may be right Micke,
I was only guessing based on the 3.55 (39/11) and the 4.1 (41/10) but I'd forgotten about the 4.3 (43/10) - I have one of those too.
I think the SZ ran a 3.9ish diff. That ratio would probably be a good match for the 3.0 24v I'm putting in my GTV.
I also would trade away my 4.3 for a nice 3.91.

The 3.91:1 Turbo box run a different style pinion bearing, might not fit other casings. I don't know if the regular style bearing fits either since I dont have one of those apart.
Just FYI.

Be easier to get the Potenziata Diff.
I have three I suppose I could let one go to a good home if anyone is chasing one let me know.

0-60 Time
Thanks for all the advise on this thread. After thinking about this. we have decided to also change the transaxle to the suggested Milano plat. with the LSD. This should come with the 4.10 to 1 gears since it appears that this will give me better 0-60 times at the expense of Highway driving. I am getting this from some gentlemen in Texas called Andrew. He is also going to do some other upgrades that are probally not necessary for the street but I might as well set up my Alfa correctly the first time so I will not have to do it again as was suggest by this thread.
My next question is what does everyone think this will do to the 0-60 time & 1/4 mile time. Say 1250 Kg; 270hp; 4.10 to 1 gears with LSD and other upgrades to my transaxle??

Re: 0-60 Time
Depends on how much you want to punish your driveline/gearbox.cchan wrote:My next question is what does everyone think this will do to the 0-60 time & 1/4 mile time. Say 1250 Kg; 270hp; 4.10 to 1 gears with LSD and other upgrades to my transaxle??
Dont expect it to perfrom well as a traffic light racer if you're not keen on rebuilding the gearbox/driveline shortly after

Re: 0-60 Time
I think your 0-60 should be around 5.7 the quarter mile in the 13.5-13.7 range.cchan wrote:My next question is what does everyone think this will do to the 0-60 time & 1/4 mile time. Say 1250 Kg; 270hp; 4.10 to 1 gears with LSD and other upgrades to my transaxle??
What kind of other upgrades do you mean?
I did the followings: the 2nd and 3rd gear has been slightly lightened (we dont want to do it aggressively, since the higher torque). I hope this help to speed up the spin up time at shifts
The other thing is we used Molibdene-plasma to made the syncro-rings' surface harder. I'm content with it. More than 10' kms in them and at least 500 heavy launch drag-run and they are still OK. And with original GTV linkage with original length shift-lever I can do 0.4s shifts, which are fast enough for a transaxle I think
Hi Fast Car,
My transmission has lightening of all of the gears as well and should includes everything that Andrew could possibly do to this box including also cross-drilling and back-cutting all of the gears to lighten 1-5 and reverse - even the reverse idler. He also shot-peens all of the gears for strength etc etc. He also lightens the rear clutch-flywheel a bunch and I am suppose to get a fully balanced unit back
The transaxle is all setup with 50% lock-up and a semi track/street clutch should be ready to go and I am just waiting for it to be delivered. I know that this probally is not necessary for a Street show car/ Possible Club track car. I just feel that I need one of the best transaxles' and it was suggested that Andrew is one of the best builders. I hope it works well and I don't have to deal with the 2nd gear synchos grinding. Of course, I am not going to abuse it but I just want to my Alfa to have a clean up shift or down shift to 2nd gear. I feel that's not asking for much
