RSAE Milano autocross video

Post by RSAE »

Hi everyone,

In light of our recent progress on the project and relative success with Go-Tech tuning, we decided that it would be fun to take our car to the Houston SCCA regional autocross on Sunday. This car hasn't been driven with any zeal since May 2006, and because we've made enormous and dramatic changes to the car, none of us knew what was going to transpire.

All in all, we were very pleased with the results! We won our class (DSP) and posted times faster than: Honda S2000, loads of WRX's, a couple WRX STi's, BMW 330Ci, 997 Porsche Carrera S, C5 Corvette, multiple 350Z's, Nissan 300ZX...
A lot of those cars had full race compound tires as well while we were running 2 year old street tires left over from the 2005 and 2006 One Lap of America events.

I think the most exciting part is there is massive amounts of improvement to be made with both car and driver. The car was a downright handful on course (read: oversteer eeeeeeverywhere) and we found some lean spots in our Go-Tech map where the engine was stuttering pretty badly (most evident at the end of the video under full throttle right before the finish). Overall, the car performed very well, and it was quite exciting to finally see some results from our hundred's of hours of work. We are currently on spring break (through March 11) and we have a few guys who are dedicated enough to be spending the week designing, fabbing, and installing various parts on the car instead of getting smashed on the beach with loads of college girls in really small bikinis. Talk about taking one for the team.

Here is a video of one of our runs:

Sounds great! Time to go to track where you can hit the last three gears
