blow thru turbo 2ltr

Post by BradGTV »

i have decided to turbo my alfetta gtv 2ltr.
my plane is to run a t28 turbo, intercooled, custom intake plenum, 2.5" exhaust and custom exhaust manifold. i plane to run about 7-9psi.
i have been told that this amount of boost will be ok on a stock engine is theis true? do i need to lower the CR? if so how do i do this ie. new pistons? other engines rods?
i have the turbodelta dellorto specs so will build a pair of them.
the one thing i will have trouble with is ignition timing!
so what do i do about ignition timing?
and also if anyone out there has done this before could you put a pic of your set up,
cheers, brad

start looking for info on the Alfetta Turbodelta. this used a blow-through carb set up.

I (also) think the original engine can withstand that pressure without altering the compressionratio. The carbs will need some alterations however. Also use a good ignitionsystem.

A conversion i have seen before had around 170 bhp and nice torque, sweet car to drive too. :)

thanks for the pics mate, on all the alfa turbo engines i have seen they all have the black cyclinder bolted onto the head, the hose runs from the cam cover into it, what is this for? is it a catch can?

does someone make reproduction turbodelta plenums? or i will have to make my own?

what power output does the engine above have? (red cam cover)

looking for an estimate but what do you reckon my power output would be for a standard 2ltr with standard CR, twin dellorto 40's, t28 turbo, intercooler and running around 8-10psi??

The Giulietta Turbodelta has approx. 170 bhp i believe.

I think you should be able to reach those numbers with your specs.

does the turbodelta have standard CR??

to lower the CR is it true that 75 TS rods fit straight in??

I don't know if they fit right in, but lowering the compression via shorter rods or offset bushings is generally a bad idea. It can actually increase the tendency to knock because the sides of the pistons won't come all the way up. There is a reason most manufacturers lower compression by lowering the dome, or even dishing the pistons, they almost always leave the sides alone. If you want to read up on this look up "deck height" and "squish area".

For a low boost application the stock 2.0 Nord pistons should be fine. With decent fueling and conservative ignition timing I would feel comfy with 5psi.

thanks greg i will go see my local machine shop and see what they suggest,
a guy in my part of the world was running 10psi on a standard 2.0 with a supercharger, but i was EFI.
so i might end up leaving it standard and if something goes major wrong then it will be time for a full rebuild and forgies ect...

Best for your engine and for power is the programmable ignition. best for your bankaccount is modifying the original dizzy.
