Was at the Western Australia Italian Car Day and happened to come across a Lexus V8 motor in an Alfetta.........interesting

definately interesting...
it looks like the LS V8 transplant , very crowded on the sides than the V6 ,but the V8 block isn't much longer than the 6'er so it's actually not that tight from engine to the rad'...
good reliable NA power....!

thats f*cking wrong... just is...

why mess with what is perhaps the strongest point of these cars? what a built 3.0 isn't enuff? cant imagine the lexus v8 would be any cheaper...

The engine is the heart of an Alfa Romeo. So replacing it with whatever kind of other engine is simply a sign of totaly not understanding what Alfa Romeo is about. :x
Perhaps only a Ferrari engine is accaptable. He was an Alfa Romeo mechanic after all...

joey, id imagine that a lexus v8 would be a hell of a lot cheaper to buy than to work a 3litre in australia....dunno about conversion costs however.....

Credit to the guy from an engineering talent angle but I'm with you joey. As good as a Lexus motor is, it's not the point. I have seen 13B Rotories fitted to an Alfetta which makes more sense from a weight point of view but immediately it is no longer an Alfa no matter how good it is.

I do support creating Alfa hybrids but only from Alfa parts.

Reminds me of the 1979 GTV i saw at the Easternats a few weeks ago here in melb, had a big chev v8 in it....said to my mates "they destroyed it"

It's completly wrong!!!
They killed the car. They take away the heart and soul of the lady. :(((
Nothing is so far from an Alfa Romeo, from a GTV than a soulless Lexus engine which generates no emotions at all. :((
Very sad story at all.

I totally agree!

It is very wrong  It is sad

I can't think from an engineering point of view when I see such things... :?

Anybody who knows this guy please try to convince him to put back in the car its soul...

what a waste of time, Lexus V8 is rubish to start with.

if your gonna do it might as well use a lighter motor with larger gain.

13b turbo \ 4cyl turbo

something ready available and cheap.

but then again im sure it would be pretty fun to drive.

i hope it a least does good burnouts :P

I have been playing with the idea of a 4.4l BMW v8 in my Giulietta for a while now.Haltech e11 with a custom intake........

Cheaper than doing the 3.8l Alfa and lots of grunt and torque without modifying anything. The 5l m5 engine is even a better proposition me thinks......

The only thing I personally dont enjoy is the v8 sounds from the exhaust.

Would you guys fit a 3.0l montreal motor in to your Alfa??

Barry,

Are you kidding? Don't some of those V8's have the alusil liner corrosion problem with certain quality of petrol? Anyway they don't sound nice, unlike the flatplane crank V8s.

BTW, Alfa 24V here are US$2-3K. USA Spec M52 3.2 M3 engines run 2-3X more than that. God knows how much more for fitment.

Montreal V8s are not as sweet as the 2.5 V6s.

I'd stick with Alfas :-)

3.0 Montreal engine? Did you get some weird special engine down there or was that a typo?

A BMW V8 would be a tight fit methinks, too narrow engine bay I believe.
I like the idea of getting power without tinkering though, production spec. unbeatable reliability.

the original montreal engine was 2.6 but for the rally they build a special one

The BMW motor fits in perfectly.Even some space for a nice set of proper headers. Its a 90 deg v8 same as Lexus.
Z,You make a 3.0l Montreal by using v6 gtv 2.5 pistons and sleeves suitably modified.

I would quiten the exhaust a lot,but retain a deep burble.Good stuff. Its like yankee v8`s,some sound awsome and others.......well,they sound like yankee v8`s.....

Also remember that the BMW motor uses up to date technology....Makes the horses very easily. Its also very much like the Alfa v6 internally.
