Hi guys, ive been rooting (geddit? :D ) around on the internet for a potential power upgrade for my car and came accross some mercedes c180 or c230 Kompressor superchargers on ebay for cheap.
They are Eaton Blowers and are meant for a 1.8 l4 but could they have a good application in the 2.5 for low boost?
Im asking because theyre cheap as chips, common at the wreckers and look relatively easy to retrofit.
What do you guys think?

the exact Eaton Blower its designated as is the: Eaton 307961
Let me know what you guys think! :wall:

I think it's nice for making about 200hp. Better to choose an m62 unit i think.

Hi!
Ill look at that, any cars off the top of your head that have that unit? because its much easier for me to buy it locally than ship so..
Also to be honest 200 Hp is probably perfect for me really... for now

Those Merc's use an Eaton M45. I put one on a VW Golf gti 1.6 a couple of years ago and it became very lively indeed !

Those blowers top out at about 190 to 200hp at 16,000 blower rpm - fyi they use a very similar item on the BMW mini's up until a few years ago.

But I'd say it was too small for a 2.5, you might only see 3 or 4 psi boost. concur with above that an M62 would be better. Good news is that's fitted OEM on some other merc's, many of the 320 engined kompressors were that size I think.

Most of the later kompressor 4cyl mercs used the m45 Eaton but the earlier 98'-2001 approx used the m62 Eaton. Easy way to tell the difference is the m62 compressor have a clutch on the front pulley same as an A/C compressor. The later m45 have a fixed smaller pulley.
The m62 is what Greg Gordon based his kit on but if you more than be a little daring and use 2 m45's ;) one for each bank like Aston Martin did. Looks pretty cool too
Just a note, all the c180,c200 and c230 had the same 1.8 engine, c180 and 200 just different mapping the c230 had a smaller pulley for slightly more boost to get more power. the m45 have 2 different size pulleys. Black and silver. Silver is slightly smaller. 72 - 68mm I think from memory.

Sorry should point out the m62 blower came on the earlier 111 engine. The m45 came on the later 271 engines.

WOW! this seems to be a potential idea!
I was expecting it to be shotdown immediately.
Okay ill check up on them as soon as im back in Botswana.
I do believe twin superchargers would sap a fair amount of Engine power but the boost per cylinder will definitely jump! :D :D
I think the plumbing for a twin supercharger kit would be pretty intense too!
Yeah i saw some 320 Superchargers that also look much more compact and 'superchargery'
Im definitely going to look into this more.
And that Aston idea certainly has some eyecandy bonuses!
