Just Bought 2003 Glenwood Racer - 156 GTA

I know that this is a front-driver however, for those who would care;

This is Dawie's 2003 156 GTA that won several races throughout the year and finished 3rd in the championship overall, (ahead of some of the 7 full factory support BMW cars!)

I had posted elsewhere some pics - let me know via PM if anybody can't find it; (I don't want to post links here on Michael's site to another forums....)

I am just GUSHING over this car! I am so pleased! We will be entering the All-Tar Rally in October with a 3.45 NA motor on solid lifters.

Yes, nice one JungleBunny,

I've seen this car - very nice. But if it's the 3.5l engine, is it still the GTA engine in there, or a 3.0 crank using m3 rods/honda pistons/man liners?

What are your cam ideas on this engine?

I am guessing it involves a lot of stealth and half truths?

Congrats JJ,

I would mind it either even if it pulls from the wrong end.

So JJ,
Will the car stay in South Africa or will you bring it over to the PNW ?

Thanks everyone!

Hamsandwich, we don't use BMW rods on these. The original GTA motor was a production spec 3.2 - tracking it down now to stow for later when it gets "restored"...

For the All Tar in October we'll run one of Dawie's other 156 2.5 blocks, with the larger 100mm pistons, 3.0 crank and 3.0 heads, standard size (but thinner) valves and close to stock port sizes. Huge headers. GoTech PRO EFI and Venom 600 injectors. (3.45 litre total.)

The conversion on this baby will not be using the Honda pistons (cast jobbies...) I want to use forged units. Will be using the Ross units from here (just came in today in fact!) Dawie and I are trying to use these on all of our joint-jobs forward.

We are aiming for 13:1 compression ratio and solid lifters. Cams will be about 11mm lift with a 302 degree duration.

Well Greg, how you get something like this past the wife is you buy it in another country...

The car will come back to live here at some point, but or now we have some unfinished business in sunny SA. (All Tar Rally to name one...)

Sounds like a lovely motor! Look forward to seeing it in action here in SA....

Good luck.

Thanks Hashish! I'll be there in October for the All Tar (we should hook up for a Castle or two...)

I have been looking for an excuse to get together with Kevin, Barry, Dawie and the rest of Clan Alfa-Africa here for a good pissup....

Pity that I will be over there in September.

Maybe we can still hook up, depending on the dates for the All Tar... I plan on flying in early (before my trip with some American friends starts.)

Does anybody know the exact dates for the 2005 All Tar or have a website with details for me?

JungleBunny!

How is the engine going?

By the way people, this car was the first alfa to win a production car race in South Africa in the last 20 years - ie it broke a 20 year drought!
