Re: GTV 6 2.5 V6 running problems
Think I found the problem, something is loose in the dizzy. i took the rotor off and the center piece the looks like a spider( don't know what you call it) is loose, I moved it back and forward a couple or times, Don't know it's exact location but when I drive the car power was almost back to normal.
Does anybody have an exploded view of the GTV6 distributor.

i think i have found the problem, took the dizzy cap and rotor off, and moved the spider ( not sure what it is called) clockwise and anti clockwise a couple of times. Now the power is almost back to normal, but I don't know its exact position and if it's meant to be loose or not.

The dizzy will rotate a few degrees with the engine shutdown as that is what it corresponds to the vacuum advance. You might be having trouble with the diaphragm in the vacuum advance, try disconnecting it and see if it makes any difference, if it does just change it.

Re: GTV 6 2.5 V6 running problems
Ok power is back, but still has a misfire, stutter or hesitation at constant throttle. I have checked compression which is ok, AFM spring is great fuel pressure is good. Trimming is spot on as we'll as vacuum advance. Only thing is plugs which are new, 1,3,4 and 6 are burning a little black while 2 and 5 are a dull brown. Can't think what else I should check, it has to be something small as it only comes about when cruzing and not under load.

Lean misfire? I would think that would leave plugs white, but I'm not sure.
Leaking injectors is the other thing that comes to mind. Greg Gordon may be of help on that.
Is the exhaust smelling rich at idle? It may be as simple as a minor mixture adjustment.
I hope that helps,

Air leak after the Throttle...
Spray starter gas around suspicious points at idle.

Speakin of air laeks.....Have you had the injectors out and replaced the seals? Are your intake boots (between the manifold and intake pipes) in good condition?

Re: GTV 6 2.5 V6 running problems
Hi replaced intake tube rubbers with silicone pipe so all good there, sorry for ignorance Mats, but what is starter gas?( Only one i know is used for starting diesel engines) Talking about air leaks is it possible plenum has a hairline crack that i am not picking up? ( has anyone heard about a crack in the plenum?)
Re: GTV 6 2.5 V6 running problems
Ether in a spray can basically. NEVER use for diesels unless you like explosions, uncontrolled ones. In your face.
There are a bazillion small vacuum tubes and idle-control stuff and crank-case breather and such originating in the plenum so lots more to check besides the obvious intake hoses.
Like the injector seals mentioned above.

Idle speed increase when the ether is sucked in through the leaks.

Re: GTV 6 2.5 V6 running problems
Quick update. Started checking from scratch according to Greg Gordon's write up and with lots of help from Kevin via email from the UK.
Found fuel pressure to be only at 15 psi a posed to the 35,6 it should be. Check fuel pump and it putting out approx. 100 psi so it has to be Fuel Pressure Regulator. So will replace that, with the help of some friends on the forum.
Then will drive again to see how far this go's to solving he problem.
Thanks guys.

Re: GTV 6 2.5 V6 running problems
Quick update, placed FPR thanks to Dawie, check inertia switch and stripped Plenum down and rebuild, so no air leeks.. Power is back, but hesitation is still there, but seems to be getting worse. Dawie reckons blocked injectors or sticking dizzy.
So the fault finding moves on......

Then it must be the injectors!
