I noticed today that when I was going through the gears that my 83 GTV6 (stock except for Greg's induction system and silicon hoses) the engine would keep on acclelerating after I took my foot off the accelerator. There appeared to be a delay after I took the foot off the accelerator before revs would decrease. It would go up a couple 100 rpm and then decrease. I just timed it so it may be related but I don't see how. It only appeared to happen when I was really acceleratoring not puttering around town.

Hi terry.

Maybe the throttle cable is on its way out or it needs a bit of grease. I know... silly... but, with your description in mind, that is what what I would check first.

Good luck.

Regards.

Turned out that the throttle cable had stretched or gone out of adjustment. It was too loose. I tightned it up and the throttle works smoothly now. May have to start thinking about replacing the cable as it has been in there since new!

Well turned out that the revving is still occuring. Next step is to check out throttle cable and probably replace it. Terry

Checked the cable. It looks find but I found one of the vacume hoses to the air intake hose disconnected, It was the one connected to the device screweed on to the passenger side valve cover. I forget what it is called. I suspect this maybe the culprit. Any suggestions/opinions? Terry

Terry it sounds like your referring to the AAV (auxiliary air valve). If so that could definately have a major impact on engine operating characteristics.Hopefully that's it.

Well I thnik now I have really found the problem! Last week I put on the aluminum coolant resevoir tank I got fromIAP. It is absolutely beautiful (albeit pricy). The hsoe connections are a bit different (not much!) from the leaky OEM plastic tanks. The top rear hose to the tank (about 5/16) when connected pulle the hoses it was connected to behind the engine so that those hoses interfrred with the throttle linkage where the linkage from the pedal connects to the throttle cable. Cure was simple went out bought a longer hose and voila no more interference! Terry
