Fuel smell in the cabin...

Hi Guys
My 84 SA GTV6 (now 3.3 AHMotorsports)GTV6 vapours in the cabin problem continues.
On closer inspection I found the fuel line (breather line) to come off the top center of the fuel tank to have a small plastic reducer inline then to a T piece, then to a longer length of fuel line that leads to a hole in the floor near the battery exiting out side of the car.
All my other vehicles have the usual cannisters mounted in the back of the hatch.
First question did my car come with this cannister originally being an SA carbi model?
Secondly should I just fit the vapour canister from a later GTV6 or did model come with a different configuration?
Thanks John
