weird

Post by Alfettish »

Hi all,
I've got a problem with my 75 TS where when I go to start it there is a crank noise from the starter and then it dies, and there is no power at all (windows, lights etc). When I disconnect the positive terminal and put it back power is restored but the same thing happens when I go to start it.
It's like it's shorting or something.
Very occasionally it starts and is seemingly fine. Then after I go to start it again the started motor cranks for a split second and then all power is cut.
Any ideas?
I think there is an immobiliser fitted.
Thanks in advance.

This sounds a lot like a really bad main ground. I would check that first.

If .....If you have a battery terminal of the replacement kind...that the cable is clamped to the end that goes on the battery post...re do the cable in its clamp (clean any corrosion present). I just had the same symptoms and it was the positive not making good contact with the battery.

Not to say that Greg is wrong....he is quite correct, just that I had another reason for that problem.

Well I found the problem. After I cleaned the earths, no joy.
Then noticed that the battery connections looked a bit high so I got a hammer and hammered them right down on to the terminals. Starts first time every time.
Thanks anyway guys, love how everyone's willing to help.
