Very weird coolant leak WTF?

Post by PietereQ »

I stumbled across this one while doing my 164 alternator conversion.
As i was removing the alternator adjuster mount, when I removed the bolts, coolant started dripping form bolt holes, shortly after i had a puddle under my car. Anyone seen something like this on these engines

PietereQ if I remember correctly one or more of the bolts which fasten the alternator bracket also serve to fasten the water pump to the cylinder block,so either the pump gasket requires replacement or it will simply reseal itself when you re-attach the bracket.

I took a look at it today and I don't think the water pump "goes so far", or at least i didnt's see any part of the pump near the bracket. I have teflon-taped the threads, and hope it will be good for the time being

That's definitely the water pump behind that bracket.
Seal has or is failing.
A pain to do it but now is better than on the side of the road.
