Radiator swap (75 > GTV6)

Hi everyone,

I'm currently trying to fit power steering rack into my GTV6.
(kind of crazy challenge I would say)

Now, the problem comes from the fact that the radiator hose
interferes with the steering pump belt.

Do you have a solution that would avoid this problem ?

Is it worth changing the radiator and try to fit a riadiator from 75 2.5 or 3.0 ?
(but, does it fit ?)

Wow, I thought this forum was THE place for GTV6 specialists.

What a surpise to see no answer coming from any of you !

My project is going on slowly but quite well and pictures will follow soon.

By the way, where is (according to you experience) the best location
for the power steering tank in the engine bay ?

Originally in the 75 the tank is located near the mastercilinder of the brakes ( in a LHD car). It's doesn't really matter where you put it as long as you keep it away from the exhaust. :wink:

GTV6 radiator and 75 radiator are quite different i believe. The 75 uses a pressurized loose fillingtank while the GTV6 has a radiatorcap and an overflow reservoir. So if you use the 75 radiator you lack an opening unless you also use the tank... :wink:

I thought the GTV6 had an overflow tank? Maybe the Alfetta GTV with the chrome bumpers had the cap on the radiator?

Remember how lots of GTV6 owners were complaining about cracked new coolant tanks?

I think just install anything that is new and will fit properly. One radiator I didn't try to fit in my 75 was the 164 24V radiator. I eventually fit a 75 2.4TD from okparts.net, one of the last few they had (so they claimed) about 7 years ago. But nowadays since my car is a race car, anything which can be installed will the one I buy, be it a BMW, Merc or whatever origin.

I'm possibly wrong then... can't really remember for sure how it works on the GTV6. :oops:

The 75 radiator is not a direct fit to the GTV6. The GTV6 does not have a coolant overflow tank or a cap on the radiator. The plastic tank, notorious for cracking, is a pressure tank, directly connected to the radiator, with the radiator cap fitted to it. The plastic tank uses an "air" gap to allow for expansion when hot.

Billy,

If you are going to the extent of fitting power steering to a road going GTV6 which is completely unnecessary unless your car spends most if its life between shopping centre car parks and the office, then why not not simply make a radiator for the purpose from scratch and be done with it.

Your original radiator given its age is probably overdue for a total clean out anyway and you can install a new core and re position the connections as required at the same time.
