Coolant system pressure testing

Post by 75evo »

Have any of you guys done pressure testing on your coolant system. I used a bicycle pump, a cheap pressure gauge, T- fitting, and tube valve. I then pressurized the system to about 8 psi to check for leaks. Particularly all those damn water plugs and hose clamp areas. Found a few small leaks here and there  . Tightened up everything and hopefully no more cooling problems after this. Will post photos of my nifty device.

You might want to actually test the system at a proper pressure. Generally 10-20% over the cap pressure. Mines 1.4bar or 21 psi. I check it at around 25-30psi. As at any point during running. It could reach at least the cap pressure.

The stock 75 coolant cap is about 10 psi only. I have pressurized it to 12 psi using the 164 Cap (1-bar). That’s should be good enough. Hoping the bloody HG doesn’t blow again.
