Please read my posts on page 14 about engine noises moving along the prop shaft.Could be that. If it is, just live with it.

Thanks. I went under the car, and found the noise. :D It's the center cross of the driveshaft. It's pretty loud under 1600RPM , but no vibration, so I will live with it :D

this has been a great topic and i have found all the input very interesting.
quite some time ago i posted some pics of a driveshaft i acquired that used a cv at the front and uj's in the middle and rear. after having it stashed in my garage for the last 5 years i have finally got round to working out its fitment and installation.
similar to mats i made a new flywheel that fitted to the cv adapter i already had pics of the flywheel are elsewhere on this site but ill post one here too.

having read most of of this thread some time ago i was a bit worried about what the results might be.
the only thing i had on my side is that this shaft had already been in a race car that was quite successful until it was written off.

in the last few weeks i have finished some engine related work and have now got everything up and running.
so far i have not been on the track or near a dyno so cant comment just yet on how it runs under power but what i have seen/felt so far has been promising. i have had no drumming/pinging that MD has described and the whole assemly has felt very smooth and balanced. im hoping that this will stay the case when under power since i took great care to get the whole bottom end balanced with the new flywheel and hub before assembly.
of course this is all very easy when the engine and car are not under any load but i also have a very firm nolathane set of front gearbox mounts and a nolathane bellhousing mount aswell, so im hoping that these mounts will help restrict the movement of the engine and trans. once i have had a chance to test i may look into an engine mount suggested by md at the beginning of this thread but will leave that for now.

so fingers crossed and ill post an update in a few weeks after the car has been on the dyno.
mats how is your progress going?

In an effort to not change everything but the body of the car it's on hold. The car will be built with the std shaft to start with.

mats, i have an alloy front flywheel for a 2L engine that was used with my driveshaft before i converted it to V6.
i have no use for it so if you think it might be useful let me know.

still waiting to get my car on the dyno to get the engine tuned. will be interesting to see how the DS goes too.

Thanks, but I'll pass.

I have a lightened stock flywheel that will be fine, I don't want a too light flywheel as we have standing starts here and I usually use the flywheel to break traction to spin the wheels in the start (Well, I used to, not sure what will happen with the turbo engine).

ok, its just gathering dust so if you have use for it later...
the flywheel was used on a car here for a number of years (we have standing starts here too) it was quite successful.

anyway. it'd be better for someone to use it if they have the need.. i have no use for it.

hairdryer... on a TS or wide angle valve engine?

so, after a very long time, everything came together and i went racing on the weekend.

everything went extremely well.
my new driveshaft worked a treat and was both quite and smooth.
the only noise came if the engine revs dropped below about 900 rpm.

apart from that it was perfect. so much smoother than the original driveshaft i had in the car before this one.
when i get more time ill post a bit more in the race car section with a bit of an update on the car.

just thought id post a positive update on the new driveshaft.

Guibo conversion to much more stronger doughnuts.
Proved in Zandvoort 2009 in a real racecar.

Will the front guibo fit the 3L driveshaft?

Is this for the 2L TS? Which racecar used it?

No, sorry. Fits only at the 4-Zylinder natural aspirated engines.

1,8T, 2,5, 3,0, 2,4TD would not fit :!:

Race car was a AR75 2,0TS with 190-200HP.

max,

If that is a GKN or Lemforder coupling, what is the part number for the front donut used in the TS racer please?

looks like three bimmer doughnuts with some nice extra metal parts....
