I am having a problem with my machinist friend. He is saying that regular machining will damage the perforated oil circulation ring on the inside of the gear. I think that this ring is damaged on one of my gears anyway.
I noticed that Barry´s gear has this ring removed.
Will machining damage this ring? Can this part be replaced afterward? Can it be removed for machining? What do I do about my gear that has the ring partially broken?

Thanks in advance for the advice
It is amazing how fast these problems can add up :(
