synchro and rings

just picked up some spare synchros and rings from Louie McApline...

80$ for synchros from Louie at Denoya trading post and $60 for rings from IAP

He is a good source for parts.....

three sides with very nice points...one side with minimal wear....

sliders came from a spider tranny...

Are you saying "spider" rings will fit the gtv6 (75) gearbox?
All 3 of my rings have excessive wear, almost rounded but the syncro's look OK.

Synchro rings and sleeves are the same for 80's spider, GTV6, Milano: synchro hubs are different (three spoke thing)

inner ring new: ~30$
outer ring (one with teeth): New 90+$, good used ~40$

If teeth really bad, check gear too!

Don't use used inner rings...

Yes I am mate. Ever since I discovered your deep under cover Italian ancestry, I have been tempted to use it but hey, your secret is safe with me.. :D

On the sane side of the fence..is it still possible to get new dog rings ?(outer rings as you call them). I thought that was impossible. Synchros you can get anywhere but I have been raiding used boxes for the dog rings bacause I have been told told that they are no longer available. Can you just clarify that please?

These things are the key component for good meshing during changes and unless the teeth are razor sharp and without any rounding, you are never going to get smooth gear changes no matter how good the the synchros are. Changing the synchros is only half the story. So these suckers are VITAL. Unless you are lucky enough to have a crash box (straight cut)... :D

To further lessen or worsen he confusion:

synchroniser ring=slider=outer ring=synchroniser engagement gear (da ting wit 33 small teef) and sometimes known as the 'dog gear'

inner ring= friction ring = nearly complete circle of metal with coarse outer surface (fits inside outer ring)

Dog ring or gear: definition of this depends on the transmission type. Generally, the Dog is mated to a driving shaft but can be a gear with side teeth... I consider it the three "toothed" part that is mated to the driving shaft (but I could be wrong),otherwise know as thr synchro hub, and this is not interchangeable with Spider model ( I bought one used and it is sized differently for the center shaft)

Before you all go out and buy these, I have never personally swithced them, but from what others have told me and what I have read, the only interchangeable parts between Spider tranny and GTV6/Milano tranny are the synchro sleeves and friction rings.
