Light clutch + flywheel

I just got my new clutch and shot some photos.

There has been discussions about lightening the rear flywheel. In the pics my old lightened flywheel is in comparison to the new one. For records the old one is lightened from 7.5 to 5.2 kg. The assys and the disk plates are there as well.

I didn't decide yet whether to use the 4.5 or 5.5" clutch. Both are capable of 1100 Nm

The 5.5" I'll machine down to 2 disk and the smaller probably as well. Neither is a bolt on but can be made to fit with pretty decent work. The flywheel weighs 952 g for the 5.5" clutch and the smaller one will be just under but I don't have it yet. I won't bother you with inertia but is is LOW.

Flywheel is steel. Thickness varies all over the thing.

will it even be drivable with that?

NO! I chose it to get the car lighter to push around

BTW, This topic should be moved to the racing department. This is definitely nothing for street driving. 7.25" clutches are still OK for that.

Welded?
I don't follow. What did you weld?
I'm pretty sure I didn't do any welding on the clutch though.

You slip them sintered plates with enough torque for long enough you weld the whole shebang solid!
Simply asking...

With 1100 Nm capacity in my 1.86 NA engine I don't think it will slip a lot ;-)

The only problem i foresee is standing start. I already had it with the old one. I tend to spin the wheels too much. Guess I need to practise starts.

Oh, you used to have rolling starts? That explains a lot actually.

No, we do have standing starts. But only one per race

Never had more than one start. If there are two it's called "2 races"... .. .
