i love my wife!

Post by sh0rtlife »

she lets me clean and paint in the house...mind you this TS box was pretty clean(on the outside) when i got it from JJ..other than a few greasy pawprints all over it :p

cleaned, clear coated(except the sealing surfaces wich were cleaned just befor assembly)..center section painted black bolts painted black too...brake cleaned out the guts so the new synthetic fluid will be on clean internals

ignore the sealant hanging out of the seals..i razor bladed it off after it dried

cant wait to get this into the gtv6...waiting on JJ to send me a speed sender so i can put this baby in

Wow, that's really cool that JJ got that box for you. I wonder if he could source the elusive 3.8 rear end that all the street/track warriors wish we could have.

a 3.8 rear eh?better mpg would be nice but would imagine a decrease in "launch" unless your running a heavily modded engine or a 3.0 or larger, tho my 2.5 is a nasty beast(wish i knew what all had been done to it)...i was worried about swapping my boxes out ...i mean my gtv6 gets about 30mpg ..hell 28mp doing 90+ winding thru the desert on a 100+ deg day

turned out the gears in my gtv6 were 4:11's ...threw the worry about MPG right out the window since this one is a 4:11 as well..normally i wouldnt worry about mpg..but i LOVE driving the gtv6 and getting better mpg than the turbo minivan(21-25mpg) just gives me more reason to drive it...and i dont drive it gently..i drive it like i stole it

encase someone wonders why im swapping out the transaxles is cause my lil 2.5 EXPLODED one of the 4 spider gears in its stock diff..so much so that ALL of it had fallen out of the diff housing and those holes barely let out pieces the size of 1 tooth...other than the classic 2nd gear crunch the stock transaxle "was" fine

Could you explain 4:11?

@ Grant,

don't you mean the 3,9 rear end? That's found on the 75 1.8Turbo and SZ?RZ cars. :)

Best finaldriveratio for a v6 if you ask me, pulls hard, picks up very nice and still quite comfortable at cruising. 8)

@ Micke,

4:11 could also be 4,11 :1... That's the 75 TS final drive. 8)

Would that be 41.1 teeth on the crown wheel and 10 on the pinion?

Yes, 3.9. Excuse me, I've never even seen a car with one here!

4:11 is the final drive ratio...its stamped on the ring and pinnion

3.9 wouldnt be that much of a change...course ive done 100+ with the 4:11's so i cant see why more speed would be required

How to get 4.11:1?

Or do you mean 41:10 = 4.1:1 ring and pinion ratio?

How do you get them so clean?
I spent hours sand blasting the ingrained grime off mine.

i cant take "full" credit for it..i think JJ had it tanked and then sodablasted...since i found a few spots of grease that had soda CAKED into it...i still had quite a bit of wire brush work and cleanup to do..the insides were fairly nasty but brake clean made quick work of it

when i get around to pulling the milano transaxle out ill dissasemble the case and drop it off at the machine shop and have it hot tanked

May have typed to fast... TS is 4,1 according to a book i have.

4,11 is possible with 37 to 9 teeth...

I had a 75 Turbo gearbox under my '74 Alfetta sedan with a 3.0 164 engine in it. Would keep up with a 147 GTA to 140km/h. 8) Loved the combination of the v6, the gearbox and the lightweight car. Good little sleeper. :P

Mark Denovich had a pretty decent TWiki site for transaxles. He cobbled together a lot of info.

This scan (I'm lazy, I would rather not type) of his printed page has the possible ring and pinion combos. Not sure what each came from.

OK, maybe I should type or Mark should get his damn site out of retirement.

I just want to positively KILL that rumour, it is NOT possible to switch around different ring gears and pinions as they are a matched set. Period.
