hi all,
the clutch in my TS box in my GTV6 is starting to slip and I wanted to check if I can use one of my Alfetta or Giulietta clutches.. wil they fit? do i need to change clutch slaves with mounting hardware as they look different at first glance..? cheers/Martin

All depends on whether your GTV6 TS fitted clutch is a twin plate unit or a single. This may affect the position of the fork but otherwise there is nothing insurmountable.

Easy to tell without the need to take the clutch housing apart - look under the car - if you have your clutch slave cylinder on the clutch housing (front part of transaxle) you have the "weaker" diaphrgam type "pushed" clutch. If slave cylinder is mounted in the central part of the transaxle you have the "drawn" type clutch, wich were installed on more powerful versions (1,8t up i reckon not really sure about the 2,0TS)
If you currently have diaphragm type pressure plate (pushed) then alfetta clutch will fit. If you have the clutch with drawn type pressure plate - then you'll have to look for for the other type, because they're not interchangable.

Never seen a slave cylinder mounted on the gearbox housing. Wanna stick a photo up? My TS box is pretty much the same as transaxles generally.

What you're looking at there is a twin plate vs single plate setup
AFAIK all twin plates were mounted this way and all single plate were mounted off the clutch housing. All 2.0 TS were single plate.
As to which is stronger - well, Alfa went back to the single for the 3 litre 75s/milanos but it's a matter of opinions.
We run a twin plate off a 2.5 on Dad's 3.0 GTV but I had a custom built single for my 24v.

Glad I could help. AFAIR your gtv was originally 2.0, probably that's why your car has the "pushed" type pressure plate.

I don't know whether you are reffering to photos or the blueprints. If photos then both cluthes are single plate - just different pressure plates. As for the strength, I was told by few "clutch - tuners" that the convex type (drawn) pressure plate are a performance feature on a clutch - greater pressure vs. pushed clutch. Again, that's what i've been told, but makes sense if you look at all those racing aftermarket clutches

Alfa 75 3.0 uses single plate "pulled" clutch...

The 75 1.6 has a smaller diameter clutch as the others.

All 4 cilinder non-turbo cars use the "pushed" single-plate clutch. Only the GTV6, 75 V6, 75 Tb and Giulietta Turbodelta use the "pulled" clutch ( propably the Alfetta GTV Turbodelta used this also).

At first (Turbodeltas/ GTV6) this was a twin-plate unit but later it became the single-plate design.

PietereQ: That was the most comprehensive answer to a question I have ever seen, photos and factory diagrams. All GTV6 and Milanos I have seen have the slave cylinder mounted on the transaxle, which agrees with what you say.

Instead of starting a new topic, I thought I could just tag on the back of this one..

I know the diameter of the friction plate in a twin plate type clutch is 190mm with a fabric width of about 28mm. What are the dimensions for the single friction disc type for say the GTV6 ?

My second question is, does anyone know of a source of friction plates for the twin plate clutch fitted to the GTV6?
