Hello-
I posted some pictures of the CF driveshaft here:

I will put some pictures of the shifter up shortly.

Thanks,

Al

Looks interesting - what did it cost approximately?

Thanks,

CF Shaft

Around $1500, not counting the donor driveshaft parts.
BTW, I posted some pics of the shifter, and my pedal assembly:

Al,

How is it going with the carbon fiber driveshaft? Any track experience with it? A plug´n´play?

do you have more pictures of the shifter so I can see the loaction of in in proportion to the shaft and seats???
brilliant job you've done there!

Hi i am realy curious to know how this shaft assembly is holding during a race
as here in the Netherlands one person also made one but with the result of several crankshaft failiours
i think due to misalighnment

At the moment i am building a Giulietta 116 series racecar
with a 2.0 TS race engine
here in Holland we modify the driveshats to use the BMW M5 donuts

Can you post some pics of the modification and what these doughnuts actually look like?

Nice!

What revs are they said to manage? Even 10'000rpm?!

I am going to try to attach a photo of an M5 flex... and here is a link showing the M5 flex compared to its smaller siblings. I am also interested in what modifications are necessary.

That was easy. I also saw a photo in a trade magazine of a Prius flex coupling. The design is very interesting! It is a flat machined plate with 6 bushings pressed in.

That's a neat design. Should be easy to build too.

Micke,

I like the steel/alu machined coupling. But what kind of bushing can we use? The coupling I'm pretty sure any local machine shop can do, but what about the bushing? Once the bushing is sourced, I can have the whole thing balanced at highspeed. Should last a long time.

I think so. The photo is of a Previa coupling used for the shaft that runs forward from the hidden engine to the ancillaries in front. For another view of the design there is a nice photo on an ebay auction [number 8002272745] which I'll post below. The interesting idea is that the aluminum disc will provide mechanical strength and failsafe alignment while the bushing design can be selected to allow misalignment. I don't think this design would be happy with gross misalignment...

I don't mean to double-hijack this carbon fiber driveshaft thread. The CF shaft uses flex joints, of course, and I still want to see more about the M5 coupling solution.
