hi guys ...has anyone every tried to make a s/shift for the gtv?

Yes they have....mostly it ammounted to moving the pivot ball on the shifter closer to the shift knob by about an inch and reworking the shift rod near the bottom of the shifter so that it fit .

The other alternatives moved the entire shifter mechanism into the cabin.

Moving the shifter inside and positivly locating everything definatly works....This was done on race cars so looks weren't so important.

The move the shifter ball (or add an inch of shaft below the ball) was done on street cars and sounded like it was moderatly sucessful. The question was (I don't think answered really) if it was worth the effort.

The later isostatic type does reasonably well with putting new bushings in throughout the shift mechanism. There are a bunch of bushings in that setup. I think that the 85 and 86 GTV6s had that and all the Milanos.

try using the gear shifter pivot from a 75 ts. the pivot is longer than that on an alfetta/gtv6.
the shifter shaft then needs to be cut and rotated 180 deg so it clears the crossmember at the front and i think the pivot width is different at the front aswell.
we just did this mod on my brothers car with great results.
all the 116 cars i have owned have had pretty good shifter assemblies but the one we just did is the best by far.
make sure the shifter shaft yoke is as tight as it can be on the front pivot without causing friction. this seems to be the downfall of this type of shifter.
