Help needed on putting the trans case to the

Post by Romeo69 »

First of all...Happy easter !!! :)

I have a Problem to close the transaxle case to the differential case: I took them apart to change an oil seal from the shift mechanism, it had a leak. I work under the car on Jacks so little space to work....

After putting the 2 cases together, the trans case stopps 1 cm from the end just before closing....the little reverse gear is well engaged in the fork; i played attention to move the fork and the little reverse gear up so it can engage in the axle in the trans housing when closing. When I leave out the Little reverse gear it closes fine.

I looked at the following Posts to see what went wrong....but cannot find the error/poblem.

Does someone have a photo/Picture to show me what to check again?

- Put a bead of casing sealer on the front case half.
- Have the reverse idler gear ready under the car. Slide the front case
over the shafts, but don't fit all the way on.
- Be sure that the fork for 5th, reverse is fitted into the synchro sleeve.
Position the idler gear so that it fits into position on the fork
extension. Hold there as you slide on the case. Hold the idler so that
it slides onto its shaft extending from the front case. Double check this
after sliding the cases to within 3/4" from each other. Use a flashlight
to peek in. You don't want to have to take it all apart to fix this.

Thanks, Pat

***SOLVED***

I looked again at this and found the problem: The fork for the 5th/reverse was not well fitted in the synchro sleeve....the reverse gear was well in the fork. Maybe I did not play attention anymore on this on closing the case as I was working late at night, I wanted to finish.

So my fault, but it closes now without a problem.
