Well the gl5 will take care of any pinion issues as that's an EP oil . Just check have to see how it feels on synchros and check that it does not attack Brass in the spec sheet . You only need 2.9 litres .

Gl4 oil is also designed for hypoid gear in gearbox and has less EP additives than GL5 oil . With synchros it's actually better with gl4 oil as gl5 has lower coefficient of friction with extra additives which does not allow synchros to engage as effectively .
You need to try what works best for your gearbox . Sometimes we had a blend of oil to the redline oil . Email redline and see what they come back with . Their oil for LS boxes 75w90NS is really good on synchros but can be better if you add modifiers .

thanks for all your replies
£45.00 for 20 litres got to be worth a punt and ill check its a gl5
got three gearboxes one in car and two spare
The changes on my car are silky smooth and can even down change from 3rd to 2nd at speed without any problems
if this changes once the new oil is in then ill be the first to comment and change it for the redline
unfortunately not ready to road test any time soon as I'm on with the engine transplant this winter
Again thanks for your help
