Can someone explain what is a good camshaft for a TS engine? Or know of a book I can buy on the theory? I don't know what to look for. Lift is good for torque, but what duration should I be looking at?

Jim has offered to give me good advice when the flow numbers come in, but I would like to get a head start and know what I'm trying to talk about ;) I can't find proper info on the net.

The utterly boring reply is that it depends TOTALLY on what you want from the engine.

I'm definetly not an expert but from what I understand: lift = torque, more duration = torque curve further up the range.

Mats,
I want about 240 NM of torque and around 200 hp

TSturbo,
I didn't know the Nord cams would fit a TS.

I was looking at catcams and these are the wildest cam they offer for the TS:

partnr. 1030526
duration [0.1mm+s] 303 / 303°
duration [1.0mm+s] 268 / 268°
max. lift 13.45 / 13.45mm
lift at TDC 4.95 / 4.95mm

Isn't the duration at 1mm pretty poor? Meaning these woulde have a very steep profile?

but regulations would force me to race against the IMSA's and that would be a bit hard ;)

Catcams say they can custom grind any profile you want. :P

My engine-machinist can do that too, but it's very costly. Maybe my machinist will cut me a deal, but a great "off the shelf"-cam is preffered.

Have you asked catcams what they charge for a custom grind?

Dennis. You might want to ask this guy.

That's were I bought mine. And they are not on the list.

PS! With 240 Nm the IMSAs would be pieces of cake

Boy, Dennis, you sure are a tough customer! I think the Catcams 1030206 is an excellent profile for a Godzilla engine. Just make sure your engine builder can accommodate 6.5mm lift at TDC, which isn't easy at all when going for high CR. You'll need some very clever piston design. With a 126-130cfm head (very difficult) and good large headers, you'll get lot more than 200hp at ~7.5-8krpm. Now 24kgm....I don't know about that!

He stated he could do a regrind of both original TS cams and could come up with (the red profile) Image
as intake and
Image
as exhaust.

6.5mm lift at TDC
hmmmm, that is a tough one.
Banned.. ? ;-) Daily donky.. ==> BMW 325d Image

Aaaaah, now that's an answer I can do something with!! I'm not so tough once you get to know me ;) I'll ask my machinist if he can make pistons for that. And I'll get him to flowbench the head to give you exact numbers.

You realize 6.5mm at TDC +1.5mm of v/p clearance is 8mm of room...
BTW, these cams are Nord profiles but can be ground no problem on their TS blanks.
Just for the hell of it, F1 engines have 0.2mm v/p clearance..
(Dennis, what's so funny about the second part? Unless you mean the 130cfm, hahahah!)

Hey Mats, I tried for months to get Catcams to special grind a set of V6 cams with two of their own existing profiles and I got nowhere...somebody must be constipated up there or something! I even had their rep here (the flowbench guy) try talking to them...same thing. That's how I ended doing my own profiles. Them guys could've saved me months!!
