Hi X-rad,

I think that the Forum has agreed that there is only one map for smog & max power. I actually have 6 maps that are stages to get to were I am today. However, please look at the prior posts and respond to the more knowledgable members post. Phil did say that the map for smog and the max power will be the same for my project. Phil and his son are going to help me with the Dyno tune part when I get more time to do this. I am going to get the Alfa Registered next week with this map. We don't have max power yet but the Alfa runs much stronger than before. We took a chance and drove the Alfa around and Christmas came early this year for me. Even with all the unforeseen problems, we are very happy with the outcome. :D

I have now used up all my AAA tows along with Leo's as well so we need to get the Alfa Registered so I do not need to tow everywhere. We are thinking of getting a trailer but I know that my wife will have a fit if I purchase another accessory for the Alfa. So I am just going to wait for awhile before we invest in a trailer.

You can get a 30-day temporary tag from CA DMV. Go to AAA (since you are a member) and start the registration process. With incomplete paperwork (e.g. missing smog) they will give you the temporary tag, good for 30 days, that will allow you to drive the car for whatever it needs (that's what those square colored tags with numbers on that you see in people's rear windows are).

Of course, you then have to complete the registration process within 30 days, but since you are close anyway this can eliminate the need for further tows.

Also the CA DMV has a Move Permit that is a one time use for a trip to a repair shop and back( or similar)....they used to cost $10 probably more now.

cchan,
Congrats on getting the car to this point amidst everything that has happened  I'm sure you've felt like just digging a hole and dumping it in at times! It is one heck of a gtv6, I can only imagine how it pulls in 2nd gear  hope you've been able to nail down some reliable source(s) to care for her.

Picked up the Alfa from Phil and it is running well. Duetto 67 came by and rode in it and took some pictures. I love Duetto's Ferrari and he said that he is going to share the pictures with the alfa people in Hong Kong. Clutch is fine now but now I have more frustration with the transaxle. Phil has now told me to my great disappointment that I either do not have an LSD or the LSD disks are worn. Therefore, it is not functioning properly. I paid for a brand new rebuilt transaxle and this is what i end up with

I emailed JJ and as usually all I get is excuses, finger pointing, and the usual BS about how Phil is wrong. At this point, I would suggest that anyone should really think twice about using Glenwood Motors NA, JJ, etc. This is the worst experience I have ever had with any vendor. You would think that a vendor would take responsibility for their transactions. I am sure that he must have some happy clients and I really wish I was one of them. Unfortunately, I am not and now I need to pay another $1500 Labor and Parts to tear down, inspect, and repair. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if other parts are not correct as well.

Phil IS wrong! You can NOT "test" an Alfa transaxle LSD by lifting the car's drive-wheels up in the air, placing it in neutral, spinning one wheel in one direction and assessing the other wheel's movement (or lack thereof) and conclude that there is no LSD in there! The LSD needs LOAD on it to work!

Anybody here IN THE KNOW can confirm this!

Any way, Chuck, you must be delusional - accusing me like this and dragging Glenwood's name in to it this way! Dawie de Villiers and Glenwood Motors in South Africa have NOTHING to do with this! You and I have a had some personal dealings that have now gone sour unfortunately - fine - but don't drag their name in to this! MANY members here on the gtv6.com, over on the AlfaBB, as well as Alfa enthusiasts around the world have purchased many things from me personally - NOBODY can say that I have not given them something that they paid me for.

I paid Andrew Garcia from Garcia Alfa Racing in Houston Texas almost 4,000 dollars in total to do all of the gear lightning (cross-drilling and back-cutting), shot-peening, clutch lightning & balancing and the LSD modifications on your box - I have ALL of the invoices and I have shared them with you.

As a part of that work, Andrew was SUPPOSED to replace the two existing LSD friction discs in there, as well as install two ADDITIONAL LSD clutches and shim it all up for a 50% lock-up! I tested that box here personally and it was perfect! The box went back to Andrew (once it was sold to you) to have it completely disassembled, inspected, the case sand-blasted and refinished and all of it re-sealed with new axle seals and case bushings for the case as well! He was also supposed to install a BRAND NEW 8-puck street/track clutch for you (this was all an additional 1,000 dollars work on that second round to his shop in Houston), before he shipped it DIRECTLY to you in California!)

From day one the bloody clutch slipped and from day 1 Andrew agreed to replace the clutch. Turns out - and you and I BOTH only found out in the last 30 days here - that Andrew Garcia really screwed MANY people over and in fact it now turns out that he installed a USED clutch disc in there! He has agreed to replace it and I have agreed to do the work, but his deceit is also now the source of a suit that I am filing against him (in addition to the 5,000 dollars that he screwed me out of on some 156 gearboxes and other parts!)

More can be read here on his thievery! http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/anythin ... texas.html

You insist that I am somehow to be held responsible for ALL of it - personally - and that I should pay somebody else's bill on this!?

Funny... the LSD has a breakaway torque spec for that... so yes, a correctly built alfa LSD will respond to that test. A worn LSD will not (however it can and will still function as a LSD untill you lift a wheel). Jim K's 4cyl book even covers that from memory.

And as for dragging Glenwood's name into stuff, I have to say its mainly been *YOU* dragging Glenwood's name into your dealings, ie pointing people on the BB to Glenwood's site when they ask if you have a website for your "business".
One of the risks you'll always face as being just a middle man is being left holding the baby when a customer or a vendor screw you.

Take any Alfa transaxle 25-50% LSD and actually try this - it won't work! It needs load.

"Built" right? Brand new cars did the same thing! Andrew Garcia - who built this one with 50% lockup - INSISTS that it will still not work that way either!

I have had a 17K mile Milano Verde 3.0 LSD on a lift and it did the same thing! A brand new car - brand new LSD for that matter - the other wheel remains still.

82 GTV6 Restoration/Modification

Post by cchan »

Hi JJ,

Here we go again. I thought that we took care of this on your private emails but since you are posting here I will reply.

I am saying that YOU did not give me the parts that you said you would

1). New clutch
2). Transaxle with working LSD

You represented yourself to me and my company as Glenwood Motors NA. This is what is shown on your website. You approched me viva email to sell me your products and services. I did not approach you. Your website shows Glenwood 24V motors, gotech EMS, Giro disk brakes, and RS suspensions. I do realize that the 24V motor that we purchased from you was not sent to South Africa. You said that you had one in Washington and that it would be cheaper. You said that you would do the conversion for me at your shop in G2. Since you represent Glenwood Motors in North America that it would be considered a Glenwood conversion. Therefore, you are representing Dawie. I purchased all parts and services from you and my companies checks are all payable to you not Andrew. The above two issues are the most blatant and the easiest to prove. As you know there were many other issues as well that I am not going to go into now.

After this problem with the Clutch, I contacted Andrew and he said that you requested a "used" clutch to save money. He also said that you sent him your 2 year old used transaxle and asked him to change the input shaft to a GTV6 shaft and to clean it up. Andrew sent me the receipts for my file. He had no idea that this transaxle was for me. He also said that you never paid him for my parts. I will never be able to get to the truth on the bb since we will need to do depostions, cross examinations, etc. Therefore, this is not the correct venue to solve this problem. It is basically your word against his and this whole post is an exercise in frustration. What you have done on the worst situation is criminal behavior and the best situation is this is just plain bad business. From my point of view, I am the one who paid again for a new clutch and will pay for the inspection and repair to the transaxle along with the additional labor and time.

Like I said in my emails before, its all smoke and mirrors with you. You are the point man on this and you sold me the parts not Andrew. Take responsibility for your transaction and not just pass the buck. If my company sold you a mutual fund and your transaction was not correct. My company would have to immediately make it correct. I could not tell you to call the mutual fund company directly and deal with them. My company would have to take care of the problem. If we did not the SEC and NASD would be on us in a second. We would have our license revoked, suspended, or at the very least face a fine and have a problem with our compliance officer.

My assocates blame me for this situation since this was my pet project. They said that I should have interviewed you better, checked your referrences, and credentials. If I did this I would have found out that you never built a GTV6 24V in CA. Nor did you do the modifications that you recommended to me. The fact is you did not even own a GTV6. I accepted this since I cann't just blame everything on you. JJ did this. JJ did that. I am not passing the buck like you are. This is the professional way to do business.

You have made resentments to Carlos, Jessica, Hugo, & Joe while at our warehouse and I was not even there. All I could do was damage control after the fact. You have insulted Phil and you do not even know him. You have called me a crook and delusional. I think not. You are in the business of selling parts and services online. I am not trying to avoid a direct question like you said but to save you all this bad press. Even if you are right and I am wrong (which is not the case) you are hurting your business. I am not trying to sell anyone anything on this website. We will just have to let the Alfa community make up their mind. I know that I am new to this community but I do not think that I have said anything that I did not follow through with. If I did (defective gotech box), as soon as I realized my mistake I made a post to make amends. I have also decided that if I do another Alfa project, I will not share it the way I did this project. Its not worth it to me to spend hours posting what I have done to help others and this is what becomes of it.

As far as I am concerned, I have paid a large sum of $ to you, paid everyone on this bb their money for parts and services, and have completed the bulk of my project. I have not cheated anyone and you are the one that did not complete your transaction as promised verbally and in your emails.
Is this how you treat your clients? When my clients say jump. I say how high? When they say kiss my a**. I say how many time? This is why I have happy clients, a successful business, and repeat clients.

You forgot about the racing Milano that you wanted Carlos and I to build. We were actually considering purchasing the 425hp engine and doing the full package again. You can forget about that. I like you personally JJ and you seem to know what you are talking about. If I did not I would have never had you stay at my home. You were the first stranger that I ever had stay at my home. Of couse, you can tell me alot of stuff and being a rookie I take it to the bank. I realize that misunderstands happen in business and it how one deals with it that determines the professionalism of the person and the company. But as the saying goes, " Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me".

If you just dealt with what we felt was a resonable settlement for the problems that we encountered, we might of started another project with you. This time we would know the landmines and address it up front so we have a more successful transaction. At this point, I would never do business with you again and I would really have to think twice about referring you business.

I feel that you have a good product and ideas but you can not do business by blaming your supply chain if you are going to be selling high end restorations to Alfa owners. You need to take responsibility for your job and keep your clients happy. Any salesperson can make a good presentation but to follow through, take care of the small details, and see the project to completion is the sign of a great salesperson.

By "dealing with" what you felt was a "reasonable settlement" you mean the personal threat against me and my family - referencing my "beautiful daughter" and "not wanting to harm us in any way" in the same sentence during our private emails...!?

Andrew WOULD say that I told him to install a used clutch - what else is the little bastard going to say!? He owes me 5,000 dollars and I burned him for it publicly! Why would I do everything high-end/high-dollar the way that I did - down to every finish - and then try to save 50 or a 100 bucks on a stupid clutch-disc!? Why would I send the entire box back to him and spend another 1,000 bucks to clean and inspect it and have the case seals and bushings replaced - only to have a used POS clutch installed!?

By "dealing with this in a professional and business-like manner" you mean that I should have accepted being blackmailed with threats of "exposing" me on the BB unless I give you money to pay for the sorting that Phil did!?

- Sorting that you would have had to pay for EITHER way in ADDITION to the money on past parts and services already delivered! All this while YOU still owe ME 9,300 dollars on what was already done and delivered!
