But it's much less rigid so you need to make it bulkier to make it rigid enough, also heat absorption is not as good when you have two different materials like that.
from a "shatter and dismember" point of view I'd opt for steel...
Would be interesting to make a comparison in weight from two performance-equal flywheels, one steel and one composite.

MD, making it composite is not really a major gain as your polar moment of innertia probably will be the same as you need the cast iron on the outside anyway. (assuming you make the inside like a rotor hat). In brakes its unsprung wait .At my level to start experimenting with expansion of different materials ie making it floating is to risky. My main problem at this stage when looking at the design is distance of the clutch face from the yoke ''shaft face'' face. I have been undrecutting there huge but still trying to keep strenght and rigidity..
Ap sell some really nice hydraulic thrust bearings but thats way out the budget so gonna use standard slave with fork on modified thrust bearing. The cost for me to make this flywheel and thrust bearing housing is less than one 15'' semi slick tyre as I have full time acces to a CNC machine and Inventor.

Re: No longer a ''budget" race GTV
If it's the one on the left the casting looks different, stronger I may say just by the looks of it, SZ/RZ maybe?

SZ/RZ would have oilcooler connections.

Drive it like you stole it...
Re: No longer a ''budget" race GTV
Maybe old alfetta then, really don't have a clue to be honest, just took a wild shot at it!Giuliettaevo2 wrote:SZ/RZ would have oilcooler connections.

Re: No longer a ''budget" race GTV
Could it be and ex autodelta casing. It has a 10 .41 LS inside but that could have been changed anytime. Every webbing on this casing is twice as strong as and origional. Any of you 75 guys recognise it ?
I know in the eighties there were ten autodelta boxes sent here , could this be one of them ?

Re: No longer a ''budget" race GTV
The casting is something i never took any interest in...
I've stripped quite a few 75's including TS, Tb and v6 and i don't remember seeing a different casting.
I will borrow your pics and ask on the Dutch forum, maybe someone has an answer...

I have an ooold Alfetta box in the garage and it looks slightly different in the casting, I'll try to snap a pic.

Thanks guys, would be interesting to know if this one of those special boxes. I found a speedo drive that was converted to and oil pump as well with a filter.
Re: No longer a ''budget" race GTV
Hey Kevin, I had a look on my old alfetta tranny and it looks just like yours (ie, with thicker webbing) I think it's earlier casing that's all. Or maybe I'm also in possesion of super duper tranny, which I'm unaware of
That is rather unlikely, because it didn't last long behind the v6, not to mention open diff... Yet the ratios were sweet, Vmax below 200km/h, she pulled like rocket then... now my 4.1 feels like a cruise ratio.
The other tranny on your photo (the cleaner one
) looks just like the one I'm currently running, and that was sourced out of a Milano.

On the Dutch forum they agree with PietereQ, old casting Alfetta box.

Drive it like you stole it...
Re: No longer a ''budget" race GTV
Thanks for info, it origionated from an old alfetta race which had the adjustable roll bars I have. That explains it.
Re: No longer a ''budget" race GTV
Hey Kevin going back to the first page of your car, I'm in process of bulding adjustable watts linkage myself, and if it is no secret:kevin wrote:New watts set up for 2nd car and plennums
-what sort of material have you used for the rods (steel, alu)
-dimensions; length (without rose joints), OD, wall thickness etc.
Thanks,
Pete

Pietere , Im only back on weekend. Will give you all dims. I used steel as was worried about shear on almn. The weight was marginal but I gues it all counts .
